I'm also happy it's getting a local release, as I never did get the MVD disc.
Definitely curious as to what artwork they'll use on the cover. Hopefully, they'll steer clear of this one... An abomination from the 80's for sure!

I watched the MVD release recently. It's enjoyable, but wasn't as much fun as BMX Bandits.

The transfer MVD used definitely has issues. The two most obvious issues were the vertical stripes you could see in pretty much any scene with a blue sky in it, and the left side of the screen for the underwater scenes. Curious if this release will be any better.

I received it yesterday...

It is definitely not a "NEW 4K RESTORATION OF THE FILM" like was announced on here. It states nothing about any new transfer/restoration on the case/disc. It's pretty much the same old HD transfer as the MVD Blu-ray. The same exact print damage on the left-hand side of the screen is still visible in the underwater scenes, etc.

The audio is 24-bit vs. 16-bit on the MVD release. And there are optional English SDH subtitles, unlike the MVD release.

The "Script, Cast Bios/Press Kit and Press Clippings PDFs" that are listed on the Umbrella website are not on the disc as a BD-ROM (PDF files) option (they were on the old Umbrella DVD as DVD-ROM content) — but they are included in the Stills Gallery on the disc.

The Stills Gallery is also presented in full 1080p HD vs. the 480p SD Stills Gallery on the MVD Blu-ray. The scans of the photos are larger/clearer/sharper, and the above mentioned Promotional materials are included near the end of the gallery...which were completely absent on the MVD release.

It does port over the Extended/Uncut Bedroom Scene + TV Spot that were both missing from the MVD Blu-ray.

Also, it displays a "B" region code on the back cover, but it's actually region free.
