In the Earth (2021) - Ben Wheatley, Reece Shearsmith

Universal will release Ben Wheatley's most recent feature - shot during the COVID-19 pandemic - the folk horror film In the Earth - will be released on Blu-ray on 11th October.

NEON (also Universal on home media but the UK distributor is Focus Features) have US rights but haven't announced any physical release yet.

It's been a while since a Ben Wheatley film has been released on disc, as Happy New Year Colin Burstead (BBC) and Rebecca (Netflix) skipped it - though the former seems to have had a Australian release from Madman on DVD.

This is in my top 10 of the year so far so I can definitely recommend it.

I caught it in the cinema, impressive atmosphere and some rightly terrifying sound design but it didn't quite come together for me. Felt like it needed a little more fleshing out in the script department, but if anyone's interested in seeing what could be made mid-pandemic restrictions and budgets then it's certainly worth a watch.

I definitely find it interesting more and more pandemic made films are hitting cinemas now: Host, Old, The Human Voice and I'm sure there are others. And ones that went straight to home releases like Songbird, Locked Down. Full Moon rushed to make Corona Zombies too.

I'm glad I pre-ordered this, and received it last week from Amazon UK. It appears to have run out of stock, and isn't available with any vendors in the US right now. Hopefully more will roll in, soon. The disc looks solid and is region-free.

Decent movie with some great atmosphere, visuals and performances. It needed a bit more oomph in the denouement for me though.

I can confirm it's region free, tested on a canadian PS3. Still wish NEON/Decal or at least Elevation in Canada would've released a proper blu-ray though.

This UK release continues to be in limited stock, hard to get, and seems quite pricey compared to the original $14 GBP preorder price. Has anyone scored the Australian release, and if so, is it region b locked?

7,99 at the moment. I see it's a bare bones release unfortunately. No extra's.
