I have a problem with my Sony BDP-S590 player.
When I start Netflix either via onscreen menu or the red Netflix button on remote, the unit goes to a black screen and the unit freezes and is completely unresponsive to the remote, or the buttons on physical player. It just sits there indefinitely with 'Net' displayed on the blue led screen, and a black TV screen. The only way to get out of this frozen mode is by holding down the power button on front of unit for 5 seconds, and then it eventually resets back to the home menu. This seemed to start happening after the last Netflix update that occurred on my player. All other features work fine, but going to Netflix is a guaranteed freeze-up with black screen. Any ideas on how to fix this? Is this a known issue with this player and the latest Netflix update? Thanks! |

It sounds like there's an issue with Netflix, contact them, hopefully they're working on the issue. I don't think a factory reset would help, even if it rolled back Netflix it would try and update when you restart it, but it may be worth a go, perhaps there was an issue with the download?

I also have major issues with the YouTube TV app. It randomly crashes, often freezing the player to the point where it needs to have the power cycled. I have done several factory resets, I have the latest firmware installed, and the internet speed off the router should be adequate (I can stream 1080p off of Vudu with it). Amazon seems to be the most stable, occasional VUDU streams work fine as well. Awful for streaming, not sure what to do next outside of just buying an external streaming box. |
