1) International Cooking Course (LP series) - There appears to be 12 LPs according to Discogs but I think I have more than 12 MPs. 2) Wine Is Elegance - Same label (Nelson Industries) but not part of the above series. |

I'd still like to see West Country Tales, which apparently exists, and is much sought after. Odd that nobody has put it out yet. |

Also, I wouldn’t expect that of the BFI. They are conservation and preservation focused and presenting the material in that altered state wouldn’t align their respect for the original media. |

Odd. They've upscaled before (The Appointment for one).
No big deal either way, but a pro level upscale can avoid the poorer consumer end upscalers in players or TVs. It doesn't alter the image as UK Blu-ray supports 1080i50 which would preserve video motion exactly, provided no intentional deinterlacing happens. Everyone used to want upscales. Now with Severin doing their routine deinterlacing of video material and Cameron and Universal doing AI upscales, traditional upscaling is being thrown in with the rest when there's nothing wrong with it. |

Because in order to upscale it has to have all it's interlacing altered, which means that it's not as broadcast, upscaling is always a compromise, especially on TV material that's shot on old tech.
Secondly, it stops it from being playable on old tech. There's a much bigger retro community out there than a lot of people realise, and if it's put on disc in it's original SD 4:3 25fps, then it will still playable on old 4:3 CRT sets, of which I have two. The second you upscale it has to be pillarboxed in a 16:9 frame which stops this from being possible. There's literally nothing to gain from upscaling. BD comes with the advantage of the extra space so SD content doesn't have to be as compressed, but once it's upscaled, it's altered and limited. There's plenty of bad upscales of old TV shows out there already, such as Fawlty Towers, where the dvds are still the better options. |

![]() Of course the whole "now it's HD on blu-ray" thing is mainly an excuse for companies to resell their back catalogue all over again. I'm talking archive SD video productions. I didn't rebuy Fawlty Towers. |
