In a year of great documentary releases at the cinema (Amy, The Look of Silence, Cobain: Montage of Heck), this was one of the best. Fascinating and nowhere near the freak show I was expecting.

Great to hear. I didn't get the opportunity to see this one despite being invited to a couple of early screenings (they were in London, I most certainly am not!).

Trailer really gripped me and I watched a couple of pieces about them and definitely want to see it.

Agreed, it was a crushing disappointment.

I think there's a different - possibly more judgemental - version of the story that could have been told, concentrating on the why and how of their Dogtooth-type situation (so more on the parents) which is almost what I was expecting but I really liked the concentration on the boys and their naive but not uneducated points of view and the glimpses of their existence. I thought it was fascinating and they won me over with their earnestness. It was more fly-on-the-wall than probing but I thought it did what it set out to do extremely well.
