Disney will release Aardman's Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015) on Blu-ray in Japan on December 16th, 2015.
Interestingly, according to Disney Japan's press release, this BD will be treated like a Studio Ghibli title, and given an encode using MGVC (Master Grade Video Coding) technology. The audio tracks are defined as "English", though the film has no spoken dialogue, and it looks like only Japanese subtitles (presumably for English text) will be included.
This disc is region-free. The presentation is excellent, and the picture quality is superior to the UK edition, in my opinion.
Once again, BDInfo seems confused by a disc with MGVC technology involved in the encoding. The actual disc size as read by my PC is 47,449,571,328 bytes.
As with many Japanese BDs, the film loads automatically, this time after about a minute of copyright screens and logos. The default audio is the LPCM 2.0 audio with Japanese subtitles, but the DTS-HD MA 5.1 track can be chosen on the fly, and the subtitles are optional. The film uses the same English-language render that is on the UK BD, so the Japanese subtitles are present only to translate onscreen English text.
All menus are in Japanese.
Disney Japan have included all of the extras from the UK release, here in 1080p, with English: Dolby Digital 2.0 audio and optional Japanese subtitles. Additionally, three Japanese teasers/trailers are included for the film, as well as a trailer reel for other, related Disney Japan / Ghibli releases, including the Shaun the Sheep TV series and Wallace and Gromit releases.
All subtitling is in white font.
