Exclamation I need help! Choosing a LCD TV for Blu-Ray :)

If anyone can help me out, it would be much appreciated. I just bought the Sony KDL40XBR2 LCD TV basically for my Blu-Ray player, but when I go back into the the store, I can't help but look at the blu-ray demo they have playing. They always have it hooked up to the Samsung LN-S4095D LCD TV and it looks awesome. In my mind, picture quality wise, it looks better than my Sony. The images seem to have more depth. Does anyone know why this is? Is it just the disc they are using? Is the Samsung LCD better for blu-ray than the Sony? I'm actually thinking about taking the Sony back and getting the Samsung. Any suggestions or information you can give me? Thanks in advance

It all depends...
It can be the blu-ray player... Or the disc.

But it can also be the technology used. Like Philips' Pixel Plus, Sony and Samsung also have 'digital filter image processing technologies', and it may be these that make the difference. However, it may also be the settings used...

Maybe someone can provide indepth information on this matter.

Calibration can make a world of difference. Even if you just use the AVIA disc.

Spec-wise, the Sony has a higher contrast ratio, but that might not mean much. Do the reviews show the Samsung as coming out better?

I know your dilemma. I'm currently evaluating the Sony SXRDs against the Samsung DLPs. But in my case, I think I'm favoring the Sony models because of the difference in display technology. Comparing LCD to LCD is a little more even.

Can you go back to the store and ask them to put the same feed on both side by side?

They really weren't willing to do that since the Sony that I have is wall mounted and the Samsung is on the other side of the store. When I ask other people about what they think, they always say to go with Sony. I can't disagree with them, because my previous TVs have all been Sony and I have yet to come across any problems. But when I ask about the Samsung, they don't know too much about them. Based on online reviews, it is all mixed. There are more actual review for Sony than Samsung. A couple people complained about a clicking noise while the Samsung was running.

Wow this is really bugging me. I wonder if the Samsung looks better with blu-ray because that TV was meant for it? Maybe the Sony Blu-Ray player will be better? Does anyone know what I'm talking about when they see the demo of the Samsung LCD and Blu-Ray together? In my mind, Sony has a "sharper" and brighter picture, but the Samsung has more depth and clarity. What do you guys think about this? Should I just stick with the Sony?

I would keep the Sony. When you get the BD player you will see why.

I sell both of those TVs on a daily basis... From what I've seen, you can flip a coin and take home a great set either way. I like the cosmetic appearance of the Samsung better, but I think the Sony displays non-HD signals better than the Samsung. If you already hadn't made a purchase, I might have reccomended you to go back and stare at the Samsung a little bit more, but in your situation I would just be at home enjoying a great TV.

^^ And if you haven't already done so, consider an ISF calibration.

Sony displays are well known for coming out like gems on the other side of a good calibration.

Well worth it!

Sony and Samsung use the same LCD panels.

Sony Bravia line is the best selling LCD TV.

Sharp makes what is regarded as the best LCD TV.
