Audition Blu-ray PRE-ORDER
![]() Release Date: 29th February 2016 Format: Blu-Ray + DVD Starring: Ryo Ishibashi, Eihi Shiina, Ren Osugi Directed by: Takashi Miike Synopsis: One of the most notorious J-horror films ever made, Takashi Miike’s Audition exploded onto the festival circuit at the turn of the century to a chorus of awards and praise. The film would catapult Miike to the international scene and pave the way for such other genre delights as Ichii the Killer and The Happiness of the Katakuris. Recent widower Shigharu Aoyama is advised by his son to find a new wife, agreeing Shigeharu seeks the advice of a colleague having been out of the dating scene for many years. Taking advantage of their position as a film company they stage an audition. Interviewing a series of women, Shigeharu becomes enchanted by Asami, a quiet, 24-year-old woman, who is immediately responsive to his charms. But soon things take a very dark and twisted turn as we find that Asami isn’t what she seems to be… Pulling the audience into a story that will lead to one of the most harrowing climaxes in cinema history, Miike twists and turns us through delirious editing and shocking visuals for one of the most depraved nightmares of all time! Great news, another Miike, but too bad that it's a steelbook.

Same here. I might pick up the Bava one day but I'm happy to wait.
This is a fair price, and I'm happy to pick up the steelbook edition - being both Dual Format and including the booklet as an exclusive. I'll pre-order it during the next sale probably (unless I decide I can finally afford that Yoshida set). |

I was afraid we would not see more Miike from Arrow after The Katakuris, so this is a pleasant surprise. I have often contemplated buying the US BD, but always hold off due to the less than stellar reviews, so I am happy to finally be able to upgrade the old DVD.
I hope this means the door is open for more Miike? Would love to see the Dead or Alive series or Visitor Q from Arrow. |

Heh, I just remembered I actually watched this in the cinema when it was released here around 2001 or so. I distinctly remember thinking 'I am too old for this shit' during the infamous last act. Little did I know that only a few years later I would rediscover my love for all things horror and re-evaluate it as a great movie.
