Following the releases of Gypsy, The Hudsucker Proxy, Deathtrap, and Greystoke, I would love for Warner's next Archive Blu release to be Abel Ferrara's "Body Snatchers" starring Gabrielle Anwar, Meg Tilly, and Forest Whitaker.
While it doesn't hold a candle to the 1956 version or even the 1978 remake, I've always enjoyed this version and think it would be a perfect addition to their Archive series, since I don't really see it getting a mass release anytime in the near future. Would anyone else like to see this? ![]() ![]() |

I like it a lot even if it does feel like some scenes were removed. The painting class is extremely creepy. I'd like to see Oliver Hirschbiegel's original version of Invasion before Warners got the Wachowskis and James McTeigue to put in action scenes and alter the ending, maybe it'd be better. I can't believe Nicole Kidman was paid $17 million.

So, anyway, I happened to notice a couple weeks ago that this was going to air in HD on Cinemax, so I DVR'ed it. Just got around to watching it this morning and immediately something didn't feel right. So, I grabbed the DVD copy from my library, popped it in, and realized I was absolutely correct. It was cropped. The OAR is 2.35:1. The HD print used for this Cinemax airing was cropped to 1.78:1.
![]() So, now I'm worried that when Warner finally releases this to Blu (if they ever do), it will be this unacceptable version. And it's a shame, because the picture quality looked very very nice with the exception of the unnecessary cropping. Hold on to your DVDs folks. |

I doubt that will happen. I'm not familiar with Cinemax but googling a bit they seem to show a fair number of scope films cropped to 16:9. Warner probably has 16:9 masters available for those requesting such but if WB puts it out on BD themselves then I can't see them using that for BD.

Since the launching of its blu-ray line, Warner Archive didn't release a whole lot of horror titles (The Hunger, Wolfen, what else?). Maybe through WB, which is releasing three Stephen King titles? Or Scream? I watched it again recently: such a neat, well done little flick.
