My absolute #1 must have for this release is a matching slipcover to go with the first two movies. The close up of just Caesar's face and the smooth finish on the slips are without a doubt my favorite slipcovers right now.

It would be really cool if they put the title of the movie on the right side to continue it being on a different side each time.
I'm more suggesting that because it would annoy me having the first movie with the title on the left and the remaining two on the top, lol. |

Just saw the latest one earlier tonight.
Simply fantastic. Consider the landing stuck knee-deep. Easily my favorite film of the year so far. It's right up there with The Lord of the Rings and Dark Knight trilogies as shining achievements from start to finish. All in all, it definitely belongs on the short list of trilogies where all three films work as individuals, and the whole works as a trilogy. Not even Star Wars could manage that. |

It's a quality flick. Here's my take from the Movies sub-forum...
Years after most of the human race has been wiped out by the simian flu and a new breed of super-intelligent apes have made their home in the forest, a few holdout human survivors, led by an obsessed colonel, are standing their ground and plotting for the extinction of the apes. After suffering some horrific losses early on, Caesar, the leader of the apes, formulates a plan to lead his group to safety while exacting vengeance on the human soldiers. In war, however, even the best laid plans have a deadly cost. Caesar's struggle to follow his moral code in the face of disaster is the backbone of this story, and it leads to an emotional gut punch of a conclusion. The rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise is one of the extremely rare instances where each subsequent film in a trilogy is better than its predecessor. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) improved upon the already-impressive Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), and this third entry, War for the Planet of the Apes manages to top both of those. One primary reason is that the digital motion-capture special effects technology has made some leaps and bounds over the years, but actor Andy Serkis, who also played Gollum in The Lord of the Rings films, is the one who brings it all home with his mannerisms and facial expressions in his role as Caesar. My wish for the next Academy Awards is for Serkis to be recognized in the Best Actor category and for the Academy to acknowledge that movie roles that are brought to the screen with the enhancement of digital motion-capture can still be examples of admirable acting skill. War for the Planet of the Apes lives up to its title, and, as such, it is not exactly a cheerful feel-good summer movie, but it is still insanely entertaining. There are explosions aplenty, but the quiet dialogue scenes between the apes provide the most rewarding moments and even the greatest visual moments, since this film is so convincing that it really does give one the impression that director Matt Reeves somehow stumbled across a group of really talented chimpanzees, orangutans, and gorillas to play these characters. This movie is a must-see for the best of reasons. You will not believe your eyes. |

Return to the Planet of the Apes was a cartoon series, so I don't think there was any expectation to be in the same league as the movies.

Means nothing, everything comes up for pre-order as or before it hits screens these days.
That said, I have no idea how well or poor War did this weekend. I just know it would've done $16 better had there been more show times on Friday, it was 20 minutes shorter, or if I could've found a babysitter at all. Timing missed with daycare bad on Friday (could've also worked if not for 15-20 minutes of trailers and bullshit before starting, but I know that will always be there and time accordingly). I'm so there Monday though for the early show we missed Friday. |
