The big question is whether there will be cable card versions or versions with Firewire interfaces.

HDV direct to disc recording via Firewire? Nice...

Also, if there is firewire, will it go both ways?

Sony seems to like Firewire, so it will be interesting to see what features are I/O are present on these boxes...

No this is US/Europe player. The Japan Release is:
