That thing looks pretty sweet. Can't wait for the recorders to start coming out here and for us to get some pricing.

My guess is that this will be released for next years holiday shopping season.

The big question is whether there will be cable card versions or versions with Firewire interfaces.

HDV direct to disc recording via Firewire? Nice...

Also, if there is firewire, will it go both ways?

Sony seems to like Firewire, so it will be interesting to see what features are I/O are present on these boxes...

No this is US/Europe player. The Japan Release is:

The BDZ-S77 (above) was launched in April 2003 in Japan and, with it, laid claim to the first high-definition optical disc recorder on the market.
