Default Beware the Batman - Season 1 Part 1

Looks like WBShop has put up a listing for Beware the Batman on Blu-Ray. It looks like it may be a Warner Archive release - I received a "made to order" discount on shipping.

I was pointed to the listing via TvShowsonDVD.com - http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Bew...1-Part-1/19407

Here's the WBShop product page:

How is this? I was completely turned off after seeing the art style in the trailer. It just looks goofy to me

I'm also curious. I will buy anything DC Animated right now, but this is one thing I might make an exception of. I thought the art style was awful... Reminded me a lot of that recent TMNT TV series which is not something I want to be reminded of.

The show was pretty decent, IMO. Not that I love the decision to steer clear from the well-known villains. I'm not adverse to using lesser known villains, but only the lesser knowns?

Still, the show works for me.

Anyone not liking what they've seen of the art style isn't going to like it any better in the series. Animation-wise, I thought the fight scenes were great. But, the CG environments are on the simplistic side, similar to the Green Lantern series that came before this one. It may have worked a little better in GL since, for the most part, they were dealing with space environments. Like GL, the writing and voice acting can overcome the look.

But, I am not necessarily turned off to the look of this show or the GL show even though I will never prefer CG animation.

Thanks for the info. I can get past the style if the stories, or action is good. I might consider it.

Also you're right, It definitely appears to be a Warner Archive title. If you bring up the list of available BD titles from the Archive, it shows up there. I'm thinking this was more of a last-minute decision, as they really did plan to only release this on DVD for months now.

I hope this means that the Brave and the Bold Blu-ray sold well. Maybe we'll get the rest of that series along with Young Justice one day... Not to mention all of the older DC series (especially Justice League Unlimited).

Thanks for the heads up, OP. My friends said it was okay but that the early morning time slot was wrong. They said the tone of the series and stories weren't for early morning kiddies.

Yeah from what I saw the show was pretty decent. It's a bit more geared towards older kids/adults I would say especially in comparison to the last Batman series Warner did (Batman: The Brave and the Bold). Not sure what the show's future is, I know a few months back it sounded like it was in danger of being cancelled but not sure if that's been changed or not. The season one, part one label has me optimistic that it's still got a chance since it isn't labeled the complete series or anything.

More episodes have supposedly been produced (Cartoon Network had ordered 26 episodes), but it does sound like that will be it. When CN will air the last 13 is still unknown.

Heard about this before, but had never seen any clips. I hate to say it, but this looks like a damned PS2 game.

There are only 11 episodes aired to date, and then it was put on hiatus from the Cartoon network. As of now, this includes 2 episodes that haven't been aired yet. Who knows if it'll truly be continued, and furthermore whether there will even be another BD release.

I was expecting to hate this show, but I thought it got stronger with each episode. As stated earlier, this is not a "kiddie" show and does have an overarching plot along with the stand alone episodes.
I thought the portrayal of Batman was great, the new take on Alfred is very cool, and it's refreshing to have Katana as a sidekick rather than Robin.
I thought I'd miss the A list villains, but it's fun seeing the B listers get some air time -- Grant Morrison's Professor Pyg is damn creepy, Magpie and Lady Shiva were well done, and Anarky is filling in well for the Joker in most respects....
I think once Katana joins forces with Batman the show really takes off.

This one is interesting because the release will include all of the first season as we know it. The show was pulled from broadcast in October 2013 and the season wasn't finished. The set includes all episodes, including the 2 unaired episodes, but by the hint of the title, they're going to continue to produce episodes under the Season 1 banner (and not start a second season).

However, considering that this show is completely up in the air, it's safe to call this the complete first season (for now).

So how disappointed or not will I be getting this and reaching the end of episode 13 to find the arc hasn't been resolved by that point (assuming the plan was to offer more resolutions by episode 26)?

Great question, I don't think you'll be completely disappointed as it doesn't end on a big cliffhanger, but lots of future potential plot points are set up -- including the reveal of an A list villain who is in suspended animation....
It all boils down to personal opinion, but I'm a huge Batman fan (started reading the comics around 1975) and I really ended up liking this show, as it put just enough of a twist on things to keep the plots interesting yet not straying from what makes Batman the Batman! (another example is Batman and Lt Gordon are at odds, not friends yet...but his daughter Barbara is a big Batman fan....)

It's future on Cartoon Network is up in the air, but there are 26 episodes that have reportedly been produced. Production on the show was not shut down when Cartoon Network yanked it off the air. I can't imagine the other 13 episodes will just be shelved and never be aired/released somewhere.

Cartoon Network did the same thing with Young Justice/Green Lantern. Out of nowhere, they were yanked off the air. Then, they finished them the following year.

Interesting. If the remainder of the show doesn't get aired, I can certainly see Warner just making a DTV release of the rest. I think they have to be planning for the rest to come out in some way or another or they wouldn't call this one Part 1.
