Default WB Con Job?

What if this was just a mere con job by WB to get us all to 'Buy Their Love'? Odds are they have either made up their mind or aren't doing anything. I'm leaning towards seeing them go Blu exclusive but them not saying or doing anything in Q1 wouldn't terribly surprise me at all either.

The trends have not changed at ALL. When either side has media sales then the Nielson numbers change in one direction or the other a bit. When either format has big release it helps them 5-10%, but on average consistently Blu-ray media has been sold 65% of the time this year. This has to be a hold out to either deplete inventory of one format OR just make money and they stay neutral.

Either way we are the pawns! WB Knows there are more players in the World and in this country than HD DVD. They know the media sells better and is superior and it protects their intellectual property better. This is a no brainer.

Well said, on all counts. And yes, we're pawns, and I think we all know it. But even in Chess, pawns are important... That said, I believe as you do that this is an inventory sell-off, which hopefully means that they're going Blu-exclusive and upgrading from the VC-1 encode...

Well, I think buying more WB will only help not the hurt the chances of them moving from a neutral stance.

I'm highly suspicious that it is just rumor due to the fact it came out on the HP and Bourne release date. I can't imagine WB would say anything to jeopardize HP sales on DUD.

You mean like sneak a few HD DVDs into Blu-Ray sets.

which begs the questions do HD-DVDs accidently shiped with blu-ray sets count as HD-DVD sales?

We should absolutely keep buying Warner titles and show our strength. Now is not the time to give up.

However, nothing in WB's position is going to change until mid-to-end of next year. This is all about greed. BD and HD-DVD supports alike are just pawns. Like I said in another thread: Join a church and go on a Mission if you're looking for a religious experience. This is about $$$...and nothing more. They will have no love loss burning one side of the field or the other when the final decision comes down.

To quote Donald Trump: "Someone Will Be Left Holding The Bag".

Well, it is the only way they can get them off the shelf.

I can see them staying as is since they are pulling money from both sides. If they picked one over the other they lose that other segment of business. After all it is all about the money.

I won't lie. I'm cynical enough to have thought several of these points myself.

The Paramount debacle simply reminded me to run like this: Don't believe it until you see it actually happen.

It would not surprise me as a business move. Get more sales from both sides and keep thier name in the news. That is what counts for them.

Seriously, have we been playing this game since Sept? Was that the first leaked rumor? Regardless it's getting old. Warner needs Blu-ray (for the sited reasons) Blu-ray doesn't need warner. They would like warner, but if they're going to play this teenager drama queen game then good riddance and we'll have a dual format quagmire because of them.

Either way, Thanks Warner, hurry up before we could care less.

It doesn't really hurt the Blu side if Warner stays nuetral (in terms on sales numbers). Warner's been neutral this whole time and Blu is going strong. What we don't want is for Warner to go HD-DVD exclusive.

I'm buying Blu Warner titles so that when Warner sees the sales numbers, they wouldn't think about going HD-DVD exclusive.

My only beef about Warner staying nuetral is that they dumb down the Blu version to accomodate the short-comings of HD-DVD. If they were Blu only, then they can spit out PQ's equal to Fox and Disney titles.

Wrong. Blu-Ray needs to whatever it takes to wrap this stupid format war up as soon as possible. Getting Warner over to all Blu is the most expedient way of getting this accomplished.

I agree Blu needs Warner. If we don't have it, then the HDM industry will fail in the marketplace. Blu loses.

HDDVD loses either way, but I'd rather have HDDVD than no HDM at all.

On the flip side, HD DVD needs to keep Warner to survive. And Microsoft needs the war to stagnate the physical market and allow their download goals the time to catch on.

You'll note Amir is now using the limitted life argument against Blu-ray. HD DVD is cheaper to deal with for the limitted remaining life of physical media.

But, of course, it's based on a premise many consider nonsense. There is no indication right now that consumers are interested in downloads replacing the physical.

I highly disagree that Blu-ray doesn't need Warner, and if you believe that then I think you should take off your Blu glasses. Let them go red and find out how much Blu need thems, neutral at very least.
