Blu-ray Knight

I'm noticing something about the British TV shows I've been ordering from Amazon UK. Occasionally, there is a high frequency tone that beeps and then beeps a couple of times in the middles of programs. It's very high, almost inaudible. I'm guessing it's around 16-17kHz. Is this some sort of cue for the engineers to get ready to cut to a commercial break? It's very irritating. I'm going to have to adjust my EQ to get rid of it.
