Phantasm: RaVager (2016) - Q1/Q2 2016

The fifth film in the Phantasm series will be released in either the first or second quarter of 2016, along with the 4K remastered original film. No word on what studio will be releasing it.

After the heartbreaking passing of Angus Scrimm this past weekend, some horror hounds had wondered if this would impact the release of the upcoming PHANTASM: RAVAGER. However, fright fans need not fret, as Don Coscarelli has told Entertainment Weekly that both the David Hartman-directed PHANTASM: RAVAGER and the 4K Bad Robot-commissioned PHANTASM transfer are “pretty much done” and, barring any unexpected developments, will be releasing in 2016!

Coscarelli revealed to EW’s Clark Collis that both PHANTASM projects will be seeking a “first-or-second quarter release” in 2016, and that there are plans to pursue a theatrical option for the films although the will likely to be limited to revival houses. Coscarelli also confirmed an impending Blu-ray release for the 4K PHANTASM, and that aside from a brand new video transfer, the film will be carrying a newly minted 5.1 audio mix. Excellent to hear. That film has long been done and I've been dying to see it. I've had doubts about how good it can be after all this time, but in honor of Angus, it'll give me blinders to enjoy it a little more!

I hope so too but the fate of the sequels seem to be steeped in some kind of limbo - at least that's my feeling. As fantastic as the news that the first film has received a 4K remaster is, if there's no complete box set this will feel a little wrong.

I would love a bluray box set of all the phantasm films. The scream factory release of part two is great so it would be cool if they could do it...

It would be great to catch a theatrical screening of the remastered original. I'll rent the new one eventually, out of curiosity, but my expectations are pretty low. I was never a fan of the sequels to begin with though - I found II to be embarrassing and don't recall III making much of an impression. I suppose I'll get around to watching IV one of these days, perhaps once V is available. I definitely wouldn't be interested in a box set, just the first film (which I've always loved).

I do enjoy the sequels more than the original by far, especially III, I am looking forward to the remaster as well as V!

I just like how the story is expanded upon in the sequels, though it raises more questions, it keeps me interested

That's what I'm hoping for too. The original is definitely my favorite, but I enjoyed the sequels, 3 is my least favorite.

I hope the Tall Man has very little screen time just like in the original movie. He doesn't need to be on screen every five minutes like in the later sequels. Also don't give him too many lines. If you show him too much and let him talk too much, you lose all the scariness of the character.

I hear the reviews say there's very little Tallman in this one. It's mainly Reggies movie.
