Paramount Star Trek (2009) / Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) 4K UHDs

. . .

. . . . . . . . . . Star Trek 4K Blu-ray. . . . Star Trek Into Darkness 4K Blu-ray
Quote:
A quick bit of Ultra HD Blu-ray news: We’ve yet to hear officially from Paramount whether or not (and if, when) they might support UHD Blu-ray releases with their titles, but industry sources are telling us that the studio has quietly begun preparing titles for release on the format, including Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness. We’ll have to wait and see when official announcements are made, but I would expect to see at least a few Paramount UHD BD titles available in time for the holidays.

As long as the IMAX bits in STID are harvested from the originals then they can upscale the rest of it, the IMAX scenes look extraordinary on Blu-ray so in UHD they will be mind-blowing.

I believe a third STAR TREK is in theaters this summer, so a UHD three-pack at Christmas would make sense.

Some Star Trek Into Darkness clips were used in a Dolby Vision HDR demo at CES 2014
http://www.cnet.com/news/high-dynami...ro-and-beyond/

and this
"A clip from the director's Star Trek Into Darkness was used in early Dolby Vision cinema demonstrations for studio execs and filmmakers."

I would definitely buy that if it becomes available.

The third Trek film, Star Trek Beyond, comes out July 16th according to Box Office Mojo.

awesome, can't wait to get more studios on board. Hopefully that means 2016 summer films like Cloverfield sequel and Mutant Turtles come out day and date

Just in time for the new movie. No surprise there. Hopefully that means we get the first 5 Mission: Impossible flicks on UHD when #6 comes out in 2017 or 2018.

These are some of my favorite sci-fi films of the last few years.

I have the 4K versions on the Samsung harddrive that came with my JS8500 - they're quite nice, even without HDR.

Shame I'll have to wait until summer, but - I'm sure these will be must haves for me too.

Cool, now how about the Original cast and TNG movies that all need 4K remasters?

The 2009 reboot was quite alright, but Into Darkness was garbage. I have a strong suspicion the new one will be the worst of the lot.

it's bad to judge a movie by it's trailer alone, but eeesh ... the new movie makes me wanna wretch.
