United Kingdom The Browns Books Retailer Thread

I think we've been looking for more options since the demise of the 20% off from HMV. I see more people have been mentioning these folks.

I've only used them 2 or 3 times but they've been very good. I like the fact they show stock levels and I like the 1990s web design vibe

Prices are generally good with free delivery on order +£50.00. £3.95 otherwise.

My last order:

Quite good pricing.

I used them for the first time last weekend and received my item on Tuesday (standard delivery). Plus they use Royal Mail which is a big plus for me. Saved over a tenner even with having to pay for delivery.

Placed one order with them and got it a couple of days later.
Great prices, quick shipping but as far as I can tell, it looks like you can't pre-order anything?

Also, there's tonnes of titles I'd like to get but I can't order them as they have this message displayed: 'Special order line: only available to educational & business accounts'.

Yeah, they primarily deal with schools and universities, so they almost certainly hold back some stock for them.

Ottakers book shop used to do the same and hive still do something similar.

They also have a lot of really old out of print stuff on that status, so I suspect that they know they're unlikely to get some of them and don't want personal customers complaining if they can't fulfil them.

It may also be that they don't have everything in stock, but have access to get the stuff.

lots of what i want is recent releases, and they're behind that academic / business barrier.

there are ways to get student ID, but it does feel unnecessary. a sale is a sale.

got my first 4 from them today. nicely boxed. about £30 cheaper than elsewhere overall.

The 'only available to education & business accounts' just means out of stock, nothing more. I emailed them about it a long time ago.

Only took until my 2nd order for there to be a problem. Ordered 6 items and received 5 in the box. Invoice inside lists all 6. We'll see how they handle this.

Done 3 Orders with them over the last few weeks

Quote:
Quote:

Both turned up in prompt time and in good condition. Dispatched within a day and sent 48hr recorded delivery. The first in a large cardboard envelope thing and the second in a box with paper padding. Arrow Blu rays were a bit over a fiver and the 4Ks around £11. The V-Cinema Box set was £39 (Is £55 on HMV and Amazon, £48 on Rarewaves)

Quote:

The third placed today. High and Low for £12 seems like a bargain for a recent-ish release. £14 In the realm of the senses is the cheapest I've seen it. Wasn't in the last few Criterion sales. Collateral was £16.32. Not particularly cheap but a shade cheaper than it is in the £3 for £50 offer (and I don't have to buy 3, obviously)

Safe to say if they keep this up, They'll be taking the rest of my HMV business that Rarewaves haven't already gotten since the demise of the 20%.

I got that for a few minutes. Think the website went down a bit. Seems to be working now.

Imagine the headline:

'BD.COM BREAKS BROWNS BOOKS'

Turns out they hadn't rediscovered the joys of reading after all

They’re not available - if it doesn’t have a green stock count under the price its not in stock.

‘in stock’ filter knocks almost 100 off that search, the actual cheapest ones are £12-£13 (Overlord, Risky Business, Tootsie)

Ugh now this place has its own thread I’m gonna get real fomo over all the cheap stuff, struggle not to buy even more. I’ve got more than 100 items from them this month already!

Yeah it seems like this thread has broke it.

I managed to snag Charade, Sword of Doom, and Dead Man for under £15 each.

I spotted that they had the Lone Wolf and Cub boxset for £35. That's a real bargain!

Got my 4 x Blu-ray order today couldn't ask for more with the packaging fairly hefty box with lots of packing.

No special offers, codes, free magazines, subscriptions, recommendations, bonus offers, sponsored crap, other people are buying [enter crap that has nothing to do with you] etc etc.

It's like 1997

No muss no fuss.
