Default So, after all the new CES announcements, buy now or wait?

I am looking for a 65" TV and 4K UHD player. As far as '16s go, I am thinking of the KS8000 series from Samsung OR LG OLED.

You guys are much better with specs (I really don't care if it's flat against the wall or anything -- I'd rather have better performance)...is there something in the '17s that catches your eye that makes it that much better than '16 models? This may be hard to answer until they hit stores and users get them in homes. I'd really like to get a '16 OLED in hopes they will drop in price at Super Bowl time.

As far as players go, I still can't tell which is the better '16 performer: the first Samsung, Phillips, or Panasonic. Do any of the '17 players look better?

Thoughts?

I have a 2015 OLED and my plan was '17 OLED. Im probably going to pull the trigger on a 65" C7 in a few months because they are where I want them now. Almost 100% DCI, DV and HDR10 can both be properly calibrated, cant wait.

Set a ballpark budget.

- make a list of priorities you want in a tv and rank them from most important to least important. This includes things like perfect blacks, viewing angles, gaming lag, brightness, dolby vision, size, daytime watching, dark room watching. Start with budget then work your way down.

I think this is spot on. Are you upgrading your UHD player?

Same here. Only issues I had were a green horizontal line on Pacific Rim, which cleared when I ejected and reloaded. The frame skipping due to the 24hz bug. Finally, I've had about 3-4 audio dropouts. Thankfully, as you alluded to, they have fixed the frame skipping and the dropouts within 10 days (though I'll say the I can't comprehend how those made it through beta testing). I haven't been able to reproduce the green line, so not sure whats going on there.

If you have any interest in 3d consider buying now. Note the '16 OLED will also be getting the update that supports the additional HDR formats, and already support HDR-10 and Dolby Vision. And the '16 models will be cheaper for now.

The OPPO udp-203, already out, or the OPPO udp-205 are currently the best of the players and are likely to remain so.

I would say there's a few Panasonic DMP-UB900 owner's that would disagree (present company included). I'm surprised you would make such a statement just based on the known bugs/problems with the Oppo!

Can the Panny play SA-CD's? Can the Panny play DVD-Audio discs? Can it be updated to Dolby Vision? Etc.

Oppo will get these issues resolved in time and then it will definitely be the better player.

I bought now. After 3 years fighting against 4K I finally broke down last week and bought my first 4K/HDR 55inch Samsung tv which will arrive this Weds. I got a good deal on it at Sears. And so my 4K journey begin's. It took awhile but I finally saw the light! And to think I had zero plans on any upgrades this year.

What have you decided ? I'm in the exact same boat as you. I'm tempted to just pull the trigger on the KS8000 but don't know if I should wait a couple months to get an OLED. Primarily for HdR gaming.

work out budget, then go to store and look at different tvs, then read reviews

i think OLEDs are the best and worth paying the extra for but thats just my opinion!

I haven't bought anything yet. I can't decide between Sony x930d, LG B6, or wait until another year to get LG B7
