Edit: Osheet! In my excitement I failed to see this is a British release. If it's Region B-locked, so help me God...
Edit 2 (10/14): Blu-ray.com review Ho-ly f***, y'all. Just saw this on the front page: https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=8919 These particularly caught my eye: "Remastered from their original negatives with the Japanese director himself overseeing the restoration process, the films will be available for purchase on September 24th." "Special Feature: 'The Adventures of Electric Rod Boy' - 45 minute short film" The first Tetsuo is one of my absolute favorite movies (note my avatar of famous "metal fetishist" opening scene, pulling that pipe through his teeth). Been dyin' to see it in HD. A new transfer from the OCN with Tsukamoto overseeing is a wonderful thing indeed. Hopefully nobody has the harebrained idea to crop both movies. 4:3 is the only, only way to see them. (Believe me: I have the RaroVideo box which features Body Hammer in widescreen and it's absolutely dreadful, cutting off people's heads and sometimes faces. The UK Tartan DVD is waaaay better.) As for The Adventures of Electric Rod Boy (or Denchu Kozo no boken), it's friggin' fantastic. Shot in the same frenetic style as the first Tetsuo. Hopefully it'll be HD, but if not, hopefully it'll be a lot better than Raro's transfer, which looks like a rip from a third-generation VHS tape with warped audio that speeds up, slows down, and drops. I...I don't think I can sleep now, I'm so excited. It would be a remarkable thing if they included this MTV advert: Last edited by Kriztoffer Swank; 10-14-2012 at 05:59 PM. Reason: derp |

I'd probably get a mid-level one for a few hundred from 220 Electronics. If this Blu-ray set is B-locked, it'll definitely be the title that causes me to cave in and buy an all-region player, like how having Braindead uncut caused me to get a region-free DVD player years ago. :p

The German versions claim to have additional footage. Has anyone seen those?

I want this tasty goodness, sooooo bad. I just don't have the money/want to buy a region-free player at this time. But Tetsuo is one of my all-time favorites, and having it in HD is so mouth-watering of a thought.
My only hope is that at some point during the wait, someone will announce a US release of these transfers. Or I'll just go totally crazy and splurge on a new BD player and that... Damn your B-locked bowlsheet! |
