And here be real photos of this magnificent set.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring The slipcase is really a treat. It is thick and sturdy like the ones from the LOTR SEE DVDs (2002-2004) or the Hobbit SEE slipcases. Another particular feature of the Japanese version: instead of using the part names as main titles ("The Fellowship of the Ring", "The Two Towers", "The Return of the King"), the Japanese use the theatrical "Lord of the Rings" logo. ![]() The tech sheet is separate and is wrapped around the spine. It is just folded into the slipcase to hold (no glue points). ![]() After removing the tech sheet. ![]() The slipcase is English-friendly, no Japanese writing on it. Also a Japanese peculiarity: they use the old DVD labeling "Special Extended Edition", as opposed to just "Extended Edition" which Warner used for the LOTR and Hobbit BluRays. The title is golden. ![]() The spine. The title is golden here, as well. ![]() The back, showing the Gate of Moria. ![]() The amaray (black, holding 5 discs) uses the Argonath teaser poster motif (which was used on the Limited Edition DVD previously). ![]() The back of the amaray is in Japanese. ![]() The spine is Japanese as well. ![]() A booklet is included. ![]() However, it is Japanese on the inside. ![]() The discs are decorated with sketches by Alan Lee and John Howe. No distracting rating logos whatsoever. ![]() The inside of the amaray. ![]() The slipcase, the amaray & the booklet. ![]() |

Here's a fun thing: I ordered all six films in this style via third-party sellers on Amazon Japan, and when they arrived, the seller I purchased The Two Towers from accidentally sent me The Fellowship of the Ring instead. So, when I began comparing the two to determine which pieces were in better shape overall, I noticed something funny about one of the sets. Can you spot it?
No? Okay, here's a detail shot: Somehow, I've ended up with a promo copy which was never even touched. Now I don't know whether to keep them both, or sell one. And if I sell one, which one do I keep? The disc content is identical, of course. |
