i have a ps3 hooked to my hdtv with hdmi and theres no question that blu ray is amazing... What is the best process for calibrating to get the best color etc...?

It depends on your television. You can go on google and search calibration options for your brand/model television.

rent or buy the Bluray movie Ratatouille

...it has a calibration tool on it.

Avia and Digital Video Essentials are good tools for calibration. The problem with the calibration tools on movies is that they're often to calibrate for those discs, rather than a blanket standard, which is what you get with DVE or Avia. They'll get you as far as you're going to get without going into service menus or getting an ISF-certified tech to do the whole shebang. DVE had a Blu-ray edition coming out a couple months ago, but it got pushed back to March. You can use the SD version and probably get within a few ticks of where it needs to be. Here's the BD version and here's the SD version. Interestingly, the SD version is a couple bucks more.

Amazon doesn't seem to have Avia, but Avia 2 is supposed to be coming soon for HD DVD and Blu-ray. I've read that DVE is a better disc, but I've used Avia for years and am happy with the results.
