How come the Thunder Road hasn't come to Blu-ray yet?

I'd buy it. Major childhood staple.

Apparently, the film as we know it is essentially a workprint, because Joe Dante has said the studio basically took it away from him in order to release it much earlier than originally planned. Unfortunately, he's also remarked that the unused footage appears to be missing, so chances of a Director's Cut are pretty much slim to none.
