I'm thrilled this is coming to BD, but that cover is ATROCIOUS! This film deserve better than badly-designed big-face syndrome.

I could scarcely believe my eyes when I saw the announcement....I'd been hoping against hope that this would receive a much-needed hidef upgrade from the woefully-inadequate non-anamorphic dvd. This is a great Redford film with sweeping cinematography and a moving, evocative score by Thomas Newman, which should sound even lusher with a lossless bump. I'm glad they've maintained the 1.85/2.35 AR's. Hoping for a nice remastering / transfer as the dvd is often very soft in appearance. Day 1 fer sure

I didn't love this movie but that is one thing I recall, the amazing score it had.

C'mon, there's nothing wrong with that cover....oh wait, this is for The Horse Whisperer, not Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part III. Never mind.

On a slightly more serious note, what's going on with Disney's anniversary math? A 15th anniversary release for The Horse Whisperer 14 years after it hit theaters? A 15th anniversary release for Ransom 16 years after its theatrical release? A 25th anniversary release for The Color of Money 26 years after it came out?

I don't care! I first saw Horse Whisperer like 12 years ago on VHS. At least it was a letterboxed VHS though. Didn't love it, but I was young. Ive grown up working with horses and about a year ago got the urge to see it again but couldn't bring myself to buy a non-anamorphic DVD. Can't wait to re-experience it all these years later

Really. I don't get it. You spend a few seconds looking at the cover when you open it, and then a couple of hours looking at the movie. As long as the movie looks good, which I expect from Disney, I'll be happy.

And when it's on the shelf it's sideways! I still have the non anamorphic DVD, massive video noise and all!

Yeah, don't know why you quoted me. I said "I don't care" about the cover, so I kind of made your point for you. Could care less about it. I'm just excited for seeing this movie after a decade, in the best possible quality

I'm surprised they didn't put Scarlett Johansson's name on the cover. Kind of shocked with that.

Definitely a beautiful film shot by the great Robert Richardson. Hopefully this isn't a rush job and some time was taken with the A/V.

Scar Jo's name probably isn't on the cover because that might mean that legally the names of everybody billed before her would have to go on the cover as well. So it would be Redford, Kristin Scott Thomas, Sam Neill, Dianne Weist, and Johannsen. Too crowded.

"... help heal the horse's injured owner (Scarlett Johannsen/ Lost in Translation)". Something to that effect I think will be seen.

Now I'm looking at this poster and debating going to EBAY.

LOL! You're being a tad unkind to Mr. Redford there. Although, these days, possibly accurate

Default One of my top 5 favorites!

I think the cover is awesome, and I am very happy this is finally coming to BD. A stunning movie and I know the Director of Photography. This is a beautiful movie and I know all of you will love it.

Nice announcement!

Well, it still appears to be non-anamorphic on Blu-ray, but is that possible? I didn't think Blu-ray supported that?

I got my copy early from DeepDiscount and watched it last night. The back cover says the aspect ratio is 2.35, but it only filled half my screen for width. I had to zoom my projector quite a bit to get the picture to fill my screen horizontally, just like a non-anamorphic DVD. PQ is pretty nice, but I think alot of folks are going to be disappointed if they don't have a zoom feature on their player or TV.

There would be an uproar. I'm afraid I think you have a setting wrong.

I'm looking forward to this movie. I first saw it when we bought the widescreen VHS copy for a friend who owns horses. He loved it then loaned it to us. My mother saw the opening shot of the running horses and was like 'Take it back. This looks stupid. They cut off the top of its head or something', and we had to explain to her how different the shots would look. This is like 1999 or so. She understands how much better widescreen is now.

Also, that widescreen VHS was at a consistent 2:35:1 ratio

I can certainly recommend this movie, one of my all-time favorites! The soundtrack itself is worth buying as well.
