Default PG or PG-13 Movies that would be better if Rated R

There are a good amount of Movies that should of been R rated because it would of been better and I want to make a thread of your opinions of what movies would of been better. I'll start off with....
Alien VS. Predator
I liked this movie and the story was cool but it would of been better if it was rated R. It could of had an awesome chestburster scene but it didnt and also it was as gory as one of the alien or predator movies.

So far, all that comes to mind are the ones from an R-rated franchise that were watered down for quick mass consumption and cash grabbing.

Alien vs Predator
(yeah, I agree that it could have been more hardcore; the unrated cut's a little better than the theatrical cut, but it's still mild)

Live Free or Die Hard (the unrated cut is much better)

Taken was already pushing the R rating, and was released with a R/Unrated cut anyways, so I can't see how that would count.

There are too many to list that fall into this catagory. One i think might have been better is Wolverine. it always bugs me in these movies that he can stab or cut someone with those blades but all you see is a little blood. i can understand the X-Men movies being Pg-13 but i think a Wolverine movie should be R.

Funny how no one ever ask the question "R movies that would be better if PG 13 or PG"

Why The Dark Knight? You'd include a torture scene lead by Dent?

As soon as I saw the title of the thread this was the first movie that came to mind before I even opened the thread. What a shame to. That would be like making Freddy vs. Jason PG-13 haha. Just doesnt work.

Ill also add pretty much every horror film that is rated PG-13. There are some exception but trying to make an R-Rated type genre film PG-13 just waters it down. Got Em!!

Reponse to the why nobody wonders what movies would be better as PG-13 is that with R there are very few limitations (Granted Gratuitous anything the the sake of having it might not be very good) but with PG-13 the thought process is usually something like what can we leave out so that we don't get an R. The key being Leave Out vs the converse argument of what can we ADD to make it an R. If a natural story takes it to the point of an R Rating then so be it and trying to cap it out to make PG-13 will likely hinder the film but if a story takes the film naturally to a PG-13 then no harm no Foul. It's when a Poor filmaker tries to force R rated material into a PG-13 story that bad things happen (This is an easily avaidable mistake) so there are I would think much fewer examples of movies that Got an R rating suffering instead of accepting a PG-13 (but it does happen).

Thanks,
T

Considering an R rating gives more freedom to films, nearly every film that isn't aimed towards children would work better with an R rating.

Why does freedom equal adult content?

There are plenty cases where filmmakers have had freedom to what they wanted at the PG and PG-13 levels.

I would tend to agree. The problem I have with many PG-13 films is they often feel like they have been intentionally censored. You can almost sense it in watching the film. It's as if the movie is crying out for more artistic freedom yet everything is kept from not "offending". It's like the film is teasing you but doesn't really want to express itself.

That's not to say that all films don't have a place. Obviously, Disney films and the like should always be appropriate and many great films don't "need" an R rating to say what they want to say. That is all good.

Yet I'm totally against films that were originally one way but are cut on home video for "safer consumption". Or PG films that want to come off as though they are "mature" but don't want to show nudity, etc. We are adults (I would hope). You can show us.

I just came to this thread to say one word that comes to mind...'Terminator'.

While Terminator 2: Judgment Day went in a slightly different direction, I thought it was still suspenseful and scary in parts. All movies after that point though were lacking in some way.

I never said just adult content, I'm talking about all content. PG 13 is a diluted version of Rated R and they are mainly only made so the film can have more available audience to make money off of. The majority of PG 13 films are not aimed towards young teens, they are aimed towards older teens that are not old enough to get into Rated R by themselves but since there is no between rating for young teens and older ones, the PG 13 films have to be acceptable for the younger rather then the older.
