Question Must have movies

Hi guys,

I am pretty new to Indian movies so I don't even have a vague overview. I only own the REM blus which are available here in Germany. All the movies I know are the ones a Pakistani girl I met here recommended me. Actually she is the reason why Indian/Pakistani movies got my interest

I just clicked through all the 15 pages of Indian Blu-rays available at Induna and checked the IMDb ratings. I saved my favorites to my wishlist but the movies I added yesterday are gone

I can't order 30 movies so I have to pick.
Which Hindi and Telugu movies in terms of PQ and story line would you recommend me for my first order?

3 Idiots
Aashiqui 2
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is not available on BD so far.

by the way. What's the most effective way to search the database on blu-ray.com for Hindi/Telugu movies if you want to get a overview and see what is available? Is there a better way than searching for the movies of a certain studio eg "YRF"? If you don't know all the studios which I do this method is also not perfect.

Wink 5 Must have Indian Movies for Newbie IMO on BluRay:

1. 3 IDIOTS (Relience) BRD: universal appeal. College, campus life. social message. Light hearted treatment of screen play. Excellent story-telling. Very good repeat value. Director's commentary in English. Huge bonus.

2. DDLJ REM (German) BRD: Universal appeal. Great songs, screenplay and repeat value. Excellent screenplay and direction. excellent repeat value. Great lead performance.

3. CHAK DE INDIA (yrf) BRD: Universal appeal. Women-centric. Social message. good story, script and screenplay. decent repeat value.

4. P.K. REM (German) BRD:
Universal appeal. Social message. good story, script and screenplay. Excellent direction. Decent repeat value. Good lead performance.

5. DARR (yrf) BRD: Universal appeal. Rare indian thriller. good story, script and screenplay. great music. good direction. excellent lead performance. good repeat value.

Honorary Mention:

6. JODHAA AKBAR (Bodega-French) BRD: Historic epic on India's most popular empire (yep! the owners of Taj Mahal). Great music. Great production values. Oscar winning composer's musical scores and background score (A.R. Rahman). Oscar nominated director's work (LAGAAN). Average story, script and screenplay, editing and direction. Below average repeat value.

You can check out this website to see what's available on blu-ray in different Indian languages => http://www.njmtv.com

(You could also take a look at my collection (<===see side-bar) since I'm only about 5 discs shy of a complete hindi blu-ray collection.)

Well , the movie is a fun ride, with great music and..with Katrina essentially playing herself (London girl) not out of her depth.

The title song, with it's tribute to Aamir Khan, Salman Khan & ShahRukh Khan sets-up the tone of this film nicely.

I would add Sivaji and Thuppakki to that. They are special in the sense that they are perfectly packaged films, with a perfect mix of action, comedy, and story. The visuals, audio, and cinematography of these films merits several rewatchings.

Hi Tom, lots of people have already given you recommendations, but you also need to tell us what sort of movies you are interested in so we have some idea if a recommendation is likely to work for you

Yes, English subs is all I need

You already made many recommendations. Thanks for that
My taste is totally unlimited. I like almost everything. My collection covers all Disney classics, action like Rambo, splatter like Saw series, romance like the notebook, Scifi, Fantasy, drama, war movies ( Tae Guk Gi from Korea is the best war movie ever in my opinion. Highly recommended. ).
I always had an open mind about things. I am not prejudiced.

But I have to be honest. Except 3 Idiots, Slumgodg Millionaire and Life of Pi I have only seen and only know the classical Bollywood romantic movies like DDLJ so far.

I like the music of Indian movies a lot and I have simply fallen for the colorful and beautiful clothes and the incredibly beautiful women But also the landscapes. The people and culture in general. The "character" of Indian movies is different in a positive way. They make you (at least me) dream like no Hollywood movie can do.

So far I own:
DDLJ - Veer&Zaara - Jab Tak Hai Jaan - Chennai Express - Om Shanti Om - Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani - Ram&Leela - Dhoom3 - Gori Tere Pyaar Mein - Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi - Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham - Mohabbatein.

I like your suggestions.
Andrew's Masaan, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Barfi, Maryada Ramanna, Ghajini and many others
Ashik's Piku, Rang De Basanti, Magadheera and almost all your others
Hindustani yours are also all good. Like them all.
Also like Thuppakki and Sivaji.
Thanks for your help.

I wanted to buy 15-20 on my first order. Can't order blu-rays worth 1000€ at once Yet you made it easier for me

Andrew where did you buy them all? Is there a good shop in UK because then I could avoid 19% taxes.
btw: thanks for the movie time video link. Even they are not complete. Deewaar blu-ray is not listed there. But good website to get an overview.

Where do I get movies that seem hard to get, for example Angadi Theru?

Nowadays I mostly order from njmtv.
http://www.njmtv.com
Shipping to Belgium is only 5 USD (I mostly order two discs at a time)
I've never had to pay taxes when ordering from njmtv.

I've also ordered quite a lot of discs from Induna.com.
http://www.induna.com
A Kolkata based web shop. Induna is very reliable. (with speedy shipping using DHL or Fedex.) But Induna charges higher shipping rates. I used to order about four or five discs at a time from them and was always charged taxes. (20 up to 25 EUR per shipment.)

Angadi Theru is available from njmtv.

I checked them out already. Was pretty surprised to see that they charge only 5 $ not matter how much you order.
But how comes you didn't have to pay taxes? In Germany you have to pay taxes for everything > 26€. I think this is the same every within the European Union?
