Default Blu Ray movies Audio

Hello All,

I have been an active audio enthusiast for my whole life. I have always valued unedited and pure audio from movies. When Dvd's came out my life was forever changed at the clarity that arrived. I have a pretty hefty blu ray set up and a decent home theater that ive constructed over the past couple years. Is there audio loss when it comes to digital copies of movies? Should i keep with blu ray's or trust that the audio from digital copies is just as pure.

Ill post this in the itunes movie section as well to ensure there is no bias :0)

Thanks,
MDB

Yes. The audio on digital copies are 5.1 max, and it's compressed. Blu-ray is far superior in the audio department. If you're an audiophile, then blu-ray is the only way to go because of their superior lossless audio encodes, from 5.1 up to 9.2 channels which includes Dolby Atmos, and DTS-X for home theater. As far as digital copy vs blu-ray audio, there is no comparison.

I'll add that some digital copies have the sound dialed way too low. Of course my preferred method of watching is blu-Ray (or HDDVD! Or even LD!) but with a family, full time job, house renos, and day to day chores I get to sit down and watch maybe one movie a week. But with a movie on my phone I can watch when I'm doing everything else. The first two that come to mind are Batman and Mission Impossible on iTunes. Both of those are so quiet that with the max volume on my Phone if there is any ambient noise I can't hear them. But MI 2 is much louder, and Tron Legacy will make my phone vibrate on a table!

Incredibles is another bad one too. The action is loud but the dialog is very quiet. The Blu is similar, so I'm wondering if its inherent in the mix or if they dialed the sound down for the digital copy.
