Warner Bros 12 Strong 4K UHD (2018)

Warner will be releasing 12 Strong (2018) on 4K UHD on May 14th. This will be through MOD distribution.

Quote:
Special Features: The Making of an Incomparable Mission; Featurette: Monumental Effort; Theatrical Trailer
Quote:
"12 Strong" is set in the harrowing days following 9/11 when a U.S. Special Forces team, led by their new Captain, Mitch Nelson (Chris Hemsworth), is chosen to be the first U.S. troops sent into Afghanistan for an extremely dangerous mission. There, in the rugged mountains, they must convince Northern Alliance General Dostum (Navid Negahban) to join forces with them to fight their common adversary: the Taliban and their Al Qaeda allies. In addition to overcoming mutual distrust and a vast cultural divide, the Americans accustomed to stateof- the-art warfare must adopt the rudimentary tactics of the Afghan horse soldiers. But despite their uneasy bond, the new allies face overwhelming odds: outnumbered and outgunned by a ruthless enemy that does not take prisoners.

As usual, Universal choosing THE most random recent-ish catalogue titles to give a 4K upgrade.

Warner appears to be targeting two groups with their new 4K May announcements today. 12 Strong for the war/memorial day crowd, and Magic Mike for the Mom's/Mother's Day crowd.

Maybe one day Warner will give us... The Wild Bunch ... Deliverance ... Dog Day Afternoon... Cuckoo's Nest ... Pee Wee's Big Adventure ... Spies Like Us ... Dirty Harry ....

... and a ton of other titles better than this drek.

I don't like to do the "release x movie rather than this shit!" schtick, especially when people moan about movies that aren't even from the same studio (not that you have, but it happens a lot), but yeah: Warners have an absolutely incredible catalogue and this is what they choose to dredge up from it?

Still, as far as this movie is concerned the German UHD didn't do a hell of a lot with it so it'll be interesting to see how/if the Warners transfer is different.

Any official back cover? And I thought WB only does 1-disc editions now.

Don't forget "Lethal Weapon" and "L.A. Confidential" which is (IMO) one of the greatest films ever made. Still, I remember liking this. I'll bite.

Listing says 1 disc, and that cover looks more like a placeholder.

L.A. Confidential is Regency and under Fox/Disney now. Good luck with that one.

The 4K cover for 12 Strong looks a bit unofficial because the banner looks like it was from Universal.

It is indeed, but with the Warners/Universal SDS cross-pollination then these things happen.

It's likely a placeholder.

The top banner isn't even well aligned (look at the blank space on the right).

Wonder what the differences might be (if any) between this release and the 2018 LEONINE release out of Germany.

The reason WB chose to upgrade this one is obvious: They wanted to have a Chris Hemsworth film to release as Furiosa hit theaters, and the only other film they have that he stars in was already released on the format (In the Heart of the Sea).

EDIT: Also, WB seems to be predominantly using the smaller MOD print runs for UHD titles to fill in their more recent catalog titles from the last 15 years or so. I imagine big factor of this is that these titles are simply less expensive, on average, to prep/release on UHD than deeper catalog titles.

The description here claims the German disc is an upscale.

I wonder if anyone has a picture of the official 4K back cover art.
