I believe the DVD has been selling for big bucks since it's OOP. Time to unload if you have it!

This is certainly a strange thread to see on here. I have never even heard of this film. It seems there is an argument for seeing the original version (ca. 120 mins) as some critics claim the director's cut (ca. 185 mins) is too long, but it doesn't seem that shorter version is on English-friendly DVD anywhere...

It looks like Cinema Libre had released a Director's Cut DVD edition in November 2009:

wow McCrutchy can't believe you've never heard of this.
this has to be a first for me to have actually known about one you didn't, even if I have never seen it.
at least we now know you don't know every film ever made.
an old friend of mine used to always rave about this film and "A Boy and His Dog".

To anyone that hasn't seen this one before, you might want to rent first; I tend to agree with what I remember from contemporaneous reviews...in a nutshell, it's not very engaging. YMMV, of course.

The director's cut is definitely better. If you look around, you would see that most of the critics that did not like it are from this side of the Atlantic (and the nudity seems to have rubbed a lot of them the wrong way).

Anyhow, back in the days Madman were the only English-friendly studio to license the director's cut from France and release it on DVD. The Australian DVD was very rare. In my opinion, this is the disc with the most beautiful menu ever made by a programmer.

Next to Isabelle Adjani, Beatrice Dalle is an all-time favorite actress whose work I still follow very closely. If you enjoy her work, definitely see Trouble Every Day and Seventeen Times Cecile Cassard (the French DVD is English-friendly).

A little behind in watching my Betty Blue dvds, but guess it doesn't matter much now. Saw the film when it was first shown in the U.S. Will check out Trouble Every Day in the meantime.

Beatrice Dalle just may be the most unconventionally attractive women I've ever crushed on...anyway I've been meaning to see this one forever. Just netflixed it so I can finally commence with the long overdue...

Unfortunately, this is going to be the theatrical cut only.

A missed opportunity in my opinion (and odd coming from Cinema Libre given how much they advertised the director's cut in their theatrical showing and continue to do so in the unrated series running in NYC in a couple of weeks). My interest in buying this has evaporated to zero.

I have to agree. I will buy the disc, but I will be keeping the Australian DVD of the Director's Cut I have. On the positive side, it seems that they will bring the rest of the films from the collection as well, some of which only recently appeared with optional English subtitles.
