Ok this is probably a dumb question but I can't get my DTS-CDs to play. All I get is white noise or a shhh sound. I went in to my HDMI audio output selection section in my PS3 and unselected a whole bunch of stuff and messed it all up. So what should be selected or unselected? Thanks guys. J.H.

Are they original DTS-CDs? They should play fine without needing to select or unselect anything, as the PS3 can internally decode DTS. As far as I know, you can get the PS3 to bitstream the audio directly to your AV receiver so that it decodes the signal, instead of the PS3, you might want to try that... I don't remember exactly where this setting is, but the available options are Linear PCM and Bitstreaming, so choose the later... If the Cds aren't orginal, it might have to do with the way you burnt 'em.

They are all original DTS CDs yes. I thought if I change from Linear PCM to Bitsream I lose the PS3 decoding Dolby trueHD and DTS-HD? I thought that was deal? Thanks for the reply. J.H.

I took care of it thanks I finally found the answer. Here is an odd question. I have the Toy Matinee DVD-AUDIO that is also of coarse DTS. Its an amazing album too. Its a hidden great record. The lyrics portion always came up when I selected it even with a non DVD-AUDIO PS3. The other day all of a sudden it stopped working. It wouldn't go into the lyrics part. It shot me back to the main menu. I select audio formats DTS 5.1 then go to play a song and it will ONLY play in 2 channel. It has worked for a year since I had my PS3 and now it just won't. I have to hit the audio button to get it to play in DTS 5.1. Do you think the DVD is just shot? Is that the simple answer? J.H.

I have the Titanic DTS soundtrack and isn't it totally incredible. Do you find you really have to crank it higher than the other DTS CDs? Thank god my DTS CDs are working great via HDMI. I still don't get the Toy Matinee DVD-AUDIO DTS discs deal. DTS should still be putting out DTS CDs they are incredible. I have like 100 of them. JC

Since I make my own - I like to take 5.1 mixes of end credit music from certain movies and turn them into albums - I took the Titanic DTS soundtrack and balanced out the rear channels and LFE, making the mix more immersive because the CD as is has those rears and LFE so low they might as well not even be there. My version is a fuller experience now.
The reason it's low in volume is because soundtrack albums of film scores are not mixed like pop, rock or rap albums where the idea is to boost the volume to the breaking point and ruin all detail, ruin all the range. If more albums had the default volume of a film score album, I'm sure audiophiles everywhere would jump for joy. |

Oh I don't want to put you through all that trouble. I'm fascinated that you make your own DTS CDs though. That's very cool. I don't even know hoe you go about that.

Hey guys,
Reviving this thread from the dead, I recently purchased a 5.1 DTS CD (Steely Dan: Gaucho) and cannot figure out how to get it to play! I've searched on-line for an answer and have tried some of the recommendations but still get the dreaded static. Its driving me nuts trying to figure this out. Not sure if something has changed since a lot of the information in those threads is somewhat dated. I have my PS3 slim (the first PS3 slim) fully updated and connected via HDMI to my Denon 910 AVR. I have a 7.1 speaker system connected to my AVR as well. Any assistance would be much appreciated! |

Sound Settings: Check Dolby Digital 5.1Ch & DTS 5.1Ch (LPCM 2Ch 44.1Khz & 48Khz are checked by force) Music Settings: Check that 44.1/88.2/176.4 is your setting along with Bitmapping TYPE 3 is selected. For Optical do it this way... Sound Settings: Check Dolby Digital 5.1Ch & DTS 5.1Ch (LPCM 2Ch 44.1Khz & 48Khz are checked by force) Music Settings: Check that 44.1/88.2/176.4 is your setting along with Bitmapping OFF is selected. If it still doesn't work try this: Press triangle to get the on screen menu up while playing a film and then choose volume. You can have it -2, -1, normal (0), +1, +2 or something like that. Make sure it is on normal (0). |

Unfortunately, still getting static. My PS3 is connected via HDMI. Here the steps I followed: In "Sound Setting", I unchecked everything then checked the two 5.1 options you listed. See pic: (and I did press X to save the settings) ![]() Then, I went to "Music Settings" and changed to settings you listed. See pic: ![]() Then, I pressed the triangle button and made sure the "Volume Control" was set to "Normal". See pic: ![]() I even went to "Video Settings" and toggled between bitstream and LPCM to see if that might do something. See pic: ![]() Here are the audio formats my receiver supports: http://manuals.denon.com/AVRS910W/NA...SYdtphpnek.php Quote:

Try this way:
Under "Audio Output Settings" select HDMI, when using HDMI, use manual settings, uncheck LPCM 2ch 88.2 and 176.4 and leave only 44.1. Under "Music Settings" set Audio CD Output Frequency to "44.1/88.2/176.4 kHz". Also try changing the bitmap between 1,2 and 3. Hopefully it will work this time ![]() |
