Since it's Disney you're out of luck.
Unless it's released sometime in the future as a disney Club exclusive, which I doubt it..
Disney hasn't even released its most famous films and hits.

I'm not so sure...if "Return to OZ" and "Swiss Family Robinson" can be released as club exclusives I have no reason to doubt titles like "The Black Hole," "Something Wicked This Way Comes," "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and the classic film "Never Cry Wolf" may make Blu-ray debuts via the Disney Club exclusives. And lets not forget that another Carroll Ballard classic, "The Black Stallion" is getting the Criterion treatment this summer... and the wonderful film, "Fly Away Home" is available on Blu-ray.

Other wish List items from the great Carroll Ballard:

Duma
Wind

I honestly hope 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea gets a regular retail release with all bonus features for Blu-ray.
I loved Never Cry Wolf ever since I saw it when I was a kid in the 1980's.

What has the Black Stallion got to do with Disney? or Fly Away home?
And i think Return to Oz and Swiss Family Robinson are more famous than Never Cry Wolf.

Because all three from your first sentence was directed by Carroll Ballard. I figure people want complete collections of a directors filmography onto Blu-ray if given the chance.
Same is true with many directors for my collection.

The films "Never Cry Wolf," "Fly Away Home," and "The Black Stallion" were all directed by the great Carroll Ballard. So perhaps his other work will be considered for release. I would disagree that "Return to OZ is any better well-known than "Never Cry Wolf." There is no arguing that "Return to OZ" was a bomb. It grossed just $11,137,801 in North America. and currently holds a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 22 reviews. Perhaps it's better known for being so disliked.

When Never Cry Wolf was released, a review in the Los Angeles Times called the film, "... subtle, complex and hypnotic ... triumphant filmmaking!" The review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a score of 100% based on reviews from eighteen critics, with an average rating of 7.7 out of 10. The film was in theatres for 192 days (27 weeks) and the total US gross sales were $27,668,764—more than twice the miserable OZ adaptation.

You can decide for yourself whether your claims are accurate. Don't mistake your own reality for everyone elses.

Myself I highly prefer Return to OZ as the superior adaptation of the L. Frank Baum books compared to the 1939 Broadway musical film The Wizard of OZ.

Well, my friend, that puts you in an extreme minority. I will probably pick it up out of curiosity since its been years since I attempted to watch the film. But my memory of "Never Cry Wolf" is far more positive than that of "Return to OZ." It may indeed be a more faithful adaptation of one of the L. Frank Baum books, but I would far more prefer to watch the 1939 classic "The Wizard of OZ" over the dark, depressing and mostly forgettable "Return to OZ." These club exclusives are for films that Disney does not believe will sell enough copies to warrant a full-blown home video release,

In fact, I wonder if the L. Frank Baum books would be remembered today had it not been for the classic 1939 film.

Yes, I know that but the poster (as I understood it) presented their bluray existence as valid evidence that Nevr Cry Wolf will be released too!
And I replied on that, meaning that since the other films have nothing to do with Disney, we aren't sure if this film gets released.
Disney has the first word, and it doesn't matter if the rest of the filmography of the director has been relased on Bluray.

I bet Never Cry Wolf will be released with the Disney Movie Club anyway.

I don't mistake anything.
i don't disagree with your claims about the critics.
But... does the public want it? This is what matters for Disney.
At imdb I see 5740 votes and in Return to OZ I see 17810!!
maybe that says something?

and how about the home video sales?
Do we know which of these films sold more, and if Never Cry wolf was a home video success on DVD?

Anyway, i still think that other films are "bigger" among people: 20000 leagues under the sea, the parent trap, the black hole etc...

At this point it' safe to assume that majority, if not all, of upcoming Disney live action catalogue will be available exclusively on DMC. Keep an eye on their site.

Yep, I agree. The Good, "Never Cry Wolf," The Bad, "The Black Hole," and the Ugly, "Return to OZ...and everything our little hearts desire.

Would someone please explain what these 'Disney Club' releases are?

Also, being that there is an HD version on Amazon, does that imply that there is a High Def scan out there? Or is it possibly simply an upscale?

If you live in US (and i think Canada too, or not?), you have to be a member of a special club to buy these.
(there are some obligations you have to fill).
If you don't live in USA, the only way to aquire these are through 3rd party sellers at amazon, ebay, but in much higher prices!

Ah, thanks for this info. I didn't know about it. I have been waiting a very long time for my favorite movie of all time, Never Cry Wolf, to be released on blu-ray. Now I know better where to keep an eye out.

Let's hope the wait isn't longer than the expiration date of civilization.

Looked into the Disney Club. It appears you're obligated to make X number of purchases. Looks like I'll be looking out for third party offers if it's ever released.

Great Movie!

I must have weird taste because there are a lot of Movies that I love that will likely never be released on Blu-Ray.

I did a little checking around and found Never Cry Wolf through some of the Usual Suspects. It's being sold as a Boot (Data File), so I assume those versions are rips from the Amazon HD Rental Version.

I'd LOVE to see an official Version of this with lotsa goodies. Criterion? You Listening?

As an aside here - Criterion is a neat/interesting company. I read an article years ago that said that one of the Owners of Janus was dying of Cancer and he wanted to see a few of his Favorite Films before he left this Mortal Plane. And that's why Criterion released Robinson Crusoe on Mars.
