Talking PS3 and WMV!!!

That's RIGHT!! Just updated the PS3 to 2.10. Not only do we get Div-X, but WMV as well (it's in the Agreement)! Just tested this out with a WMVHD (720P) file from IGN's website! Thought you all should know. Only one left now is MOV Files. Peace.

unfortunately only wmv files that are encoded with VC-1 are working.
The others I've tried say "Unsupported Data"

So does this mean I can watch a divx disc in the player, or just divx files from my PC/PS3?

Gizmodo is saying that the PS3 can read divx off of a disc. I don't know if that means files burned to a disc or a disc authored as a divx disc.

Yeah me either, I assume its the codec, but I am hoping it means the original authored retail discs too; anybody know for sure or have a real divx (not the codec) disc they can try?

AVI is a container format. What you need to look at is the codec that the film aka stream is encoded in. An AVI file can contain film encoded in divx, wmv, mpeg2 among the many others.

Has anyone been successful playing WMV VC1 encoded (wmvhd) files? I tried bad santa but it says Unsupported data. Is this due to the 2gb file limit? Do we need to add DRM to it to get it to work properly?

Divx disc are entirely a separate entity than the divx codec, so it should only apply to divs encoded videos and not that format that went DOA.

I can't wait to try this out with MariposaHD! It's a free internet TV show available in download-able eposides most just under 2Gb all in widescreen 1080p and all in WMV (not sure about the VC-1 part yet though.)

http://www.mariposaHD.tv/

Edit- It works!!!!! I love this show and it's awesome in 1080p on the big screen in my HT via PS3.

(opps... just found out it doesn't see the audio so I'll have to modify the file,.. well, the video is great anyway )

THANK YOU SONY !!!!!!!!

EDIT - What about this stuff-
