One of my dads favourite films (I like it as well). I better not mention it. Or The Cruel Sea....

I'm not loving the cover though, I'm quite fond of the Studio Classics cover that Fox put out on DVD.

Here's the Blu cover. Can't see my Dad loving it either.... but it's great these types of films are maiking it onto Blu-ray. Which is the most important thing.

I didn't say it wasn't the original artwork. To me at least it doesn't really convey the drama of the film. The grave is a pretty powerful image though. I tried to find the Studio Classics poster but I couldn't, all I found was a variation on the cover and an image of the original poster. I think there have been almost half a dozen DVD covers. Anyways it's the film that's important it's just nice to see this and similar titles making it to Blu. My Dad is desperate for Un taxi pour Tobrouk to be released in English as it's one of his favourites.

It would have been nicer if they hadn't turned the brightness of the Blu-ray cover up to 11. Hopefully the actual product is more muted than the product image, because right now it's reminding me of Raiders of the Lost Ark or Lawrence of Arabia...

I'm pretty sure it's never been issued on Fox Studio Classics. It's never been a Fox film. It's never been released in the US either, where the title was changed to Desert Attack for theatrical release.

I'm almost certain it was a Studio Classics release I picked up the other day in HMV, the cover showed the poster at an angle with other artwork behind it. If it wasn't a Classic someone was trying to make it look like one. I'll check it out next time I'm there. You may be right though and I've confused it with another Classic title.

Out a side note I tried to find a poster of the James Mason film Rommel -Desert Fox as my Dad did the poster for the Leicester Square in London release. Shame I couldn't find it and they didn't give him back his original artwork.

Update: My almost certain has become 'I was completely wrong' it was a Studio Classic I picked up it just wasn't Ice Cold In Alex....

NOTE:

I was asked to pass a note that the newly restored Ice Cold in Alex will be showing at the Odeon Panton St. (in London) from June 17th. So if you are visiting London, this would a terrific opportunity to see the film theatrically.

Can anyone confirm if this comes in a slip cover? I've seen a few Region B copies for sale on US sites with slip covers, yet the copies I've seen in UK (HMV, etc.) are packaged in standard keep case only For reference, the copies I've seen in the US are Studio Canal releases but don't have the 'Vintage Classics' banner across the top.

It did, but you might not be guaranteed to get one on-line.
