$699 USD. Not at all surprised with the USD tag, since I was predicting as much as $800 USD.
I do look forward to seeing how well it performs, though. |

I can attest to its stellar performance. We used several BDP-UB900s at our 2016 TV Shootout and they were a pleasure to have in the event.
We now have 5 set-up in our showroom. One is just being used as our Hi-Res audio server with a high-end 2-channel demo system. Beautiful build quality, reliable performance and great feature set even without DVD-A and SACD. |

A terrible price. Panasonic is pricing itself out of the market.

@uther, There's a place for all products and Panasonic choose the high-end market for the DMP-UB900 4K BD player. I can assure you the build quality, performance, features and design are all geared for the professional and advanced enthusiasts. It is not over priced by any means and sales are very brisk. My only hope is that Panasonic can fulfill the strong demand.
@Jodi, Philips will be marketed by big box retailers, like Best Buy, Walmart etc and I don't have much information on their player, but it is available for pre-order on Amazon and Best Buy. Panasonic selected the speciality retailer and Magnolia for their distribution channel. The design and specs are all high-end. So the power supply, capacitors and circuitry were developed for the professional and enthusiasts consumers. The DMP-UB900 can be configured precisely for your system and applications. Inputs, outputs and all circuits can be enabled or shut off as well as set-up to match your system and personal preferences. You can custom configure and turn on or off any of the audio and video inputs, outputs and features. It's easiest to review the many features and configurations choices in person so call with any questions. |

The video picture performance is close on both players. Most of Panasonic's advantages are design, build quality, features, audio performance, flexible and vast configuration capabilities, and a better remote control.
For example you can configure the two HDMI outputs to anything your system needs. So either HDMI output can be set-up to be totally off to eliminate any possible interference from an unwanted or unused circuit to bleed into the other circuit, or just output audio from one and video and audio from the other, or video and audio from both, or however you need the 2 outputs to be set-up for your system needs. Samsung is fixed to always on and video and audio from one and audio only from the second. Likewise, you can turn off or on one any of the many audio only outputs. So if you need digital coax and no other audio output you can shut off all of the other audio outs, like the analog audio, 7.1 analog audio, digital optical, both HDMI audio to off. This will also eliminate any possibility of noise getting into another circuit. You can even shut off the LED front panel display to further reduce the risk of interference. The power supply, and all other electrical components are high-end, for example the capacitors and all connectors are gold plated. You can adjust the HDR luminance, this is a great feature for dark BD's that need a boost in luminance and you can also convert HDR to SDR. The build quality and fit and finish is excellent reducing any possible vibration and giving the player a high-end quality feel. The player decodes and supports all Hi-res audio files and specs for streaming and playback over your home network, of it's USB and it's built-in SD card slot. Here's a nice article that goes into more detail on the specific capacitors and other design benefits of the DMP-UB900. I love 4K HDR BD and if you have Samsung's 4K player you do not need to upgrade to this player. It's just another option and only needed if you like or need the additional specs or love high-end a/v equipment. Overall the picture is the very similar on both players with a slight edge to Panasonic's chroma processing. Last edited by Robert Zohn; 07-07-2016 at 01:06 PM. |

@Carlos2992, disc loading is very fast. I have not timed it against Samsung's, but they are both fast loading.
@Mezzanine, we had to return 4 of my 5 loaner DMP-UB900s so I can't tell you how to shut off the LED front panel display until I get home tonight. |
