Sounds interesting but don't see it doing that well on ABC family. Nine Lives of Chloe King is in the same genre a little with powers etc and isn't doing so well. Seems the ABC family crowed only likes teen dramas and Mellisa and Joey for comedy.

It's going to end up being a disaster on ABC Family. I regularly watch most of the shows on that channel and even enjoy a few of them, but the channel is doing abysmal with its current superpowered female show, the Nine Lives of Chloe King. Their target demo is teen females and young women, not a good mix for a traditional superhero-based series.

Freeform is getting into the Marvel game. EW has confirmed that the network has given Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger a straight-to-series order. Cloak and Dagger is based on the comic, which follows teens Tandy Bowen and Tyron Johnson as they handle two major life changes: Gaining superpowers and falling in love. In the comic, Tandy has the ability to emit light daggers while Tyrone can engulf others in darkness. Cloak and Dagger marks the network’s first-ever Marvel series. As of now, there’s no writer attached. |

I'm excited to see this. I definitely think it has potential, as Freeform has been branching out. They have Shadowhunters currently on the air, and a horror/slasher series by the Once Upon a Time creators coming this summer. Plus, it's being co-produced by Maarvel Studios, so at least they're directly involved.
While I too would love to see Netflix handle the show, we also need to remember they have four shows, at least one potential spinoff (Punisher) in some form of consideration, and a minsieries on the way. On top of that, the Netflix President has claimed he wants only two Marvel seasons a year (ridiculous imo) so another show would just delay all the other shows, or else get held off for years. I'd rather see a Cloak and Dagger show now, rather than potentially getting it when Netflix feels like it and risk it never happening. |

trying to spread the love.
Freeform doesn't have the same production quality or budgets as Netflix, so it's likely this is their move to add another "tier" to the universe. I actually really like that for another reason, it broadens the pipeline for Marvel giving lesser known actors, writers, and directors an avenue into the MCU. Freeform is also a different format from Netflix. Their shows go live online weekly as opposed to in a batch. That changes how they have to be written and structured. This will probably be more similar to Agents of SHIELD or Agent Carter than it will be to Daredevil, and probably somewhere in between. |

I only vaguely know C&D and the only two Freeform shows that I find are any good now are Baby Daddy and Young & Hungry... but I'll watch this. I just hope making it a teen drama won't bog down the actual storyline with angsty teen drama crap. it's the same channel that ABC Family occupied, it's the same network they just changed their name to something terrible lol Last edited by kevin87; 04-07-2016 at 07:51 PM. |

So with this information I'd say this will probably be a lot more like Agents of Shield, very much an Agents of Shield Light |

I would be glad to have another Agents of SHIELD-esque show on tv. Some of my friends were saying Freeform is much more family friendly than even ABC and has a bit of a less dramatic CW flavor. Whether that's true or not, I can't imagine that would affect the quality of the show.
I always affiliated Cloak and Dagger as X-Men characters. Is this part of the deal Fox and Marvel worked out? |

I doubt I'll watch this because everything I've seen from ABC Family / Freeform is cringe worthy garbage tailored for teenage girls. Sure, once I see a trailer I could change my mind, but I doubt it. ABC, Netflix, ABC Family/Freeform all have a certain aesthetic, as do the CW, Fox, CBS, NBC, etc. And the ABC Family stuff has all been a bunch of crap that seems more suited for something like Supergirl than Cloak & Dagger.
I'm sure it will be two Abercrombie & Fitch models with a heavy emphasis on their relationship, so I'm not the demographic for this anyway. |

I've always viewed them as Spider-Man characters because that's where they first debuted and it was in a Spidey comic where I'd first encountered them, with most of the other times I'd read about them being in Spider-Man comics. IIRC they were originally experimented on and turned into superhumans (like the MCU's Wanda and Pietro) and it was later retconned they were mutants, so I guess Marvel retained rights of the characters despite their status as mutants.
