Default Chocolate

Just want to let the word out here that the blu-ray of Chocolate is out. If you are into films featuring incredible martial arts and found Ong Bak or Tom Yum Goong amazing, then Chocolate follows the trend (jaw-dropping stunts with silly storyline). This time, it's a female prodigy in the name of JeeJa Yanin under the same director of the two previous Tony Jaa movies.

Please support studios like Magnolia that buys Asian films without hacking the hell out of them (not like Weinstein that gets rights to great Asian movies, recuts them, then holds them out for years). Plus they also release great blurays as well (such as the Korean film The Host).

Magnolia has just purchased the rights to Ong Bak 2 and I hope we get the same treatment as they've done with Chocolate & The Host.

Very good action, with a very silly story. I found the transfer to be somewhat inconsistent. The dark exterior scenes show a lot of video noise and the black levels in these scenes don't stand up to the rest of the film.

I hated this movie, and i love pretty much every martial art movie but this was so cheesy and dumb. The idea was awesome to bad it did not amount to its expectation

just saw this yesterday, presentation was very nice for the most part, but night scenes were pitiful to look at, nothing major distracting.

Stellar fighting sequences, very very poor character development for the most part. other than that is a cool way to spend an hour and a half.

note: the movie is not in English, is Thai and there is a major drawback in the disc, in order to read the subtitles you must deal with English sdh, which is annoying.

I need help, I planning to pull the trigger to buy this today.

Either I can get the US verison from amazon. for like 24 bucks plus shipping.

Or I can get the UK verison from Amazon.co.uk for like 20 bucks shipped.

do both of them have hearing impaired subtitles only? Thats my main concern.

I can't speak for the UK disc, but the US disc has English Subtitles and English SDH subtitles.

The previous poster may have been confused because at the beginning of the movie characters are speaking a language other than thai, so there are no subtitles for that dialogue.

The UK disc has proper English subs only,(and removable), and a DTS-HD-MA audio track.

Seen this the other night and I wasn't to impressed. Some of the moves she pulls out is ong bok worthy but everything seemed to choreographed/fake. I don't know maybe, it's because the last to movies I saw were S.P.L and Flash Point so it kinda took away chocolates' thunder.

I think what it is is that when the movie starts they don't see subtitles, but they can see and hear people talking, so they select the second english subtitle track which would show a little dialogue box saying [speaking Korean] or [speaking japanese]. That is the English SDH subtitles, It's a few minutes into the film before there are any real subtitles on the regular subtitles track.

Wait a minute, are you telling me that on the US disc, the Japanese dialogue at the start, isn't subtitled? LOL!!
On the UK disc, EVERYTHING is subtitled, even the mangled English. Normally I hate it when I watch a foreign movie and any English is subtitled as well, but this movie really needed it.
