In a bizarre but fascinating bit of casting, Humphrey Bogart stars as a vampire in his only horror film role. After a murderous doctor is executed, he is revived with human blood--and soon people with that blood type begin to disappear. When an eager reporter stumbles across a popular actress who was thought to be dead, he can't help noticing that her skin is unnaturally pale and that she keeps her face concealed beneath a long black veil. Suspecting that evil is afoot, he investigates the terrifying world of a psychotic doctor (Bogart) and is drawn into a series of unsolved murders.

It's not, Warners was just playing off of the popularity of the name.

This new blu ray release is going to be part of my Halloween horror film marathon in October.

I love this film. I highly recommend that everyone buy it and watch it without any preconceived notions. If you give it a chance, you'll discover that it is a great horror film on the level of other 1930s classics. I have no clue why some people put it down.

Bogart himself disliked the film, but only because he had a snooty viewpoint on horror films and thought they were beneath him. A lot of people have that prejudice against horror, as if it isn't great cinema, and that prejudice blinded Bogart to seeing how great this film is. Nevertheless, he gives a great performance as always. Great actor.

I didn't receive mine either, and I preordered it on Amazon the day it went up. And to think I encouraged everyone to buy this...

I don't know who is responsible for the delay, but I'm very disappointed.

I ordered this just the other day for $16.99 and was happy at that price...

the days of getting Warner Archive titles for $11 or so appear to be over.

Their releases are top quality however, so paying up to 20 bucks I'm somewhat okay with....
