Default Screen Gems acquires Home-Invasion Thriller KEEP WATCHING (starring Bella Thorne)

In a competitive situation, Screen Gems has picked up rights for the U.S. and much of the world to Keep Watching, a thriller from Voltage Pictures starring Bella Thorne.

Formerly known as Home Invasion, the pic revolves around a family imprisoned by intruders who play a life-and-death game in which the mysterious rules become clear as the night unfolds. Thorne stars as a disillusioned teenager intensely guarding a personal secret.

The cast also includes Ioan Gruffudd, Chandler Riggs, Natalie Martinez, Matthew Willig and Leigh Whannell. Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona are producing. No word on when the pic will invade theaters.

Voltage Pictures financed Keep Watching, from rookie feature director Sean Carter and first-time screenwriter Joseph Dembner, who wrote it on spec after hatching the concept with Alex Heineman. Nicolas Chartier and Craig J. Flores are producing via the Voltage Films banner, and Andrew Rona and Heineman via the Picture Company.

The deal for the movie, which had a budget of under $5 million, also included many international territories. Screen Gems is said to view the film as a potential franchise-starter in the fashion of an Insidious.

It was filmed in December 2013: https://twitter.com/chandlerriggs/st...80394702045184

Sony Screen Gems was planning on playing a new game with audiences last December: kill or be killed. They had originally planned to release Sean Carter’s Keep Watching (formerly Home Invasion) for release in theaters on December 2, 2016, only it never arrived. Now, according to ERCboxoffice, the film will receive a single day theatrical engagement on Halloween. Presumably, it would soon after arrive on VOD and home video.

Bella Thorne (Amityville: The Awakening, The Babysitter) stars with “The Walking Dead” favorite Chandler Riggs, and Natalie Martinez (“Kingdom”), Saw and Insidious‘ Leigh Whannell, and Ioan Gruffudd (The Fantastic Four).

A family imprisoned by intruders is forced to play a terrifying game of “Kill, Or Be Killed”. As the night unfolds, the game’s mysterious rules become clear, and the family realizes their nightmare is being streamed live to riveted viewers all over the world, who are compelled to keep watching…not knowing if what they’re seeing is real, or staged.

Pass on this. Sounds kinda interesting but i Cannot stand that Bella thorne actress. Horrible , unappealing actress who has over sixty credits on IMDb and I think every single project she is in is bad.

I got a trailer for this with Happy Death Day. Definitely was a bit unusual/surprising to see the Halloween night, only at 10pm tag.

There are so many other recent horror flicks I wish I would have had a chance to see theatrically (The Babysitter, Better Watch Out, Tragedy Girls - which I still might get to see on the big screen during its release). It's on Halloween which is my favorite holiday and I can think of better things to do that night. But I guess if for some reason I don't have plans and it doesn't cost a premium price I would MAYBE go see it. But I doubt it. Will catch it on VOD though. Just doesn't look that great.

I don't think she's gonna, probably going to be a social media darling/dancer with a small acting and singing career.

Seems to be the new way to dump films. Give it a one night theatrical event to get some people to see it, and to basically act as a commercial for the home release soon thereafter. Same way they eventually decided to just dump Jeepers Creepers 3.

They've been advertising this at the local AMC, but it's not listed in their showtimes (or anywhere around here for that matter).

"In Theaters Everywhere" my ass.

I have one theater near me playing it all day Halloween (4 shows), several theaters playing it one showtime at 10pm, and several not playing it at all.

Sitting here in my theater for a showing of this that's going to start in 4 minutes, and it appears I have the theater all to myself. LOL
Let's see how bad the latest one day-only theater dump is!

It's actually not completely awful.
Takes a long time to get going, and still doesnt make a lot of sense, but theres a nice feeling of dread and tension throughout and Thorne actually isnt terrible in it.

Knowing this was shot back in 2013 (especially evident by the age of Chandler Riggs circa Walking Dead season 3), some of the shots are a little creepy like watching underage Thorne going to the bathroom or disrobing for a bath (even without nudity).

2.5/5

Saw this tonight.
I'll agree it's not completely awful but it's not that good either. I likened it to The Collector meets Truman Show..only nowhere near as good lol. And yeah it's nice to see Bella Thorne circa 2013 even though underage, at least it's not "fake" and streetwalkery Bella Thorne circa 2017.
Way too many clichés took away my feeling of tension but ramped up the feeling of dread since we all know when people continue to do idiotic things in these types of movies their chance of survival plummets to -100%. That being said the clichés do make it the perfect horror flick for a Mystery Science Theater night among friends

I gave it a 2/5.

Btw
I don't know about you but I saw that ending coming fairly early

My localist theaters that played this:

Regal - $13.50

Galaxy - $12.75

I went with Regal for my Crown Club points and thankfully Movie Pass covered the ticket. I would not have paid to see this even before knowing what I know now.

My choice had a pretty good handful of people in the room. This isn't the best and most original horror film. But it made a good distraction and a nice cap for Halloween. Surprised to see Leigh Whannell outside of a Twisted Pictures or Blumhouse Productions film.

I wish I had known about this one-night showing. I never do anything on Halloween anyway. And unlike most of the people here, apparently, I like Bella Thorne. She was very funny in The Babysitter, for instance.
