With the runaway success of the PS4 worldwide, we are now at the inevitable and unfortunate position where Sony has lost their laser focus in this race. I won't say they've become complacent, but just have too many distractions going on that I highly doubt will bear fruit.
Sony VR reeks of Move 2.0, is definitely unproven tech, and really has me underwhelmed overall with everything i've seen. PS4.5K Neo Hyper Edition has frustrated developers, confused consumers, and is too early for prime time IMO. Really what % of homes have PS4's and 4K tv's in the world? (I'm seriously curious) PS+ has become nothing but 8-bit indie releases, which while a few games may be fun, is nothing to brag about and a complete 180 from what it used to offer when it had to "prove its worth" and sell itself PS Now is grossly overpriced for what it offers. This could have been something great if they offered free access to games on Now that you already own (physical/digital) copies of in a sort of backwards compatible way. I'm pretty sure the 4.5K thing will cause quite a few major delays, as the 2 version mandate per game will really strain developers with current projects ongoing. I personally believe and agree with Jsteinhaur that Horizon Zero Dawn is the first victim of this if the rumored delay Varmintx posted is true. The other problem is with no major competitive threat around, things don't look like they'll turn around anytime soon and in fact should get worse as this current gen continues. Unless M$ announces something game-changing in the Xbone world, or Nintendo absolutely kills it with the assumed NX reveal at E3, we may very well have already seen Sony at their fiercest. Hopefully I'm dead wrong, but the general trend seems to be movement in all the wrong directions IMO. |
