Default New Ghost in the Shell Film Slated for 2015

Although I kinda hated the Arise films, I would love a new film set in the original's universe. No word on where this is set yet.

http://dailyanimenews.net/news/42186....html?page=755

"The official website for Ghost in the Shell Arise announced on Friday that a new Ghost in the Shell film is in production and is slated to open in theaters in Japan in 2015. "

Well it definitely has my interest. Too bad that link has so little info. I'm not sure if this will be part of the Arise universe or a sequel to Innocence or something else. Will have to keep my ears peeled.

Back in October, it was revealed that Scarlett Johansson had been offered the lead role in DreamWorks’ live-action remake of Ghost in the Shell and now Variety brings word that the actress has accepted the role! Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders will helm the feature from a script by William Wheeler, based on the series by Masamune Shirow.

I think she's great. Lucy and Avengers (etc.) prove to me that she can do it.

I really like ScarJo, but Margot Robbie would have been a better choice. With Scarlett it's probably gonna feel like a Black Widow solo movie!

Looks kinda neat. Motoko kind of looks like a mix between the 1995 and series version.

As mentioned, teaser trailer:

Looks like the same style as Arise. I had hoped for a different animation style.

Apparently we've been talking about two different GitS movies. I'm with kristoffer, that animation does nothing for me. It's only a teaser so there's time for my opinion to be changed, but for now there's two GitS films I'm not looking forward to.

That's a very very good thing for me, I hated the Arise version of Motoko.

As for the Hollywood film, Scarlett Johansson would have to act entirely different for this, she can't just dial in her performance like she usually does and just be Scarlett Johansson in a purple wig. She's going to have to embody the Major, confident and clearly spoken in intent without ego, it'll be hard but i fear it'll stretch beyond Johansson's ability

If you have seen "Under the Skin" I can see the Scarlett version of the Major being alot like the character she plays in that movie.

That's exactly what it'll be because that's why they hired her. Maybe given the casting choice it will at least have a decent budget, but the director dosen't have the chops to handle a movie like this and I really don't have high expectations about another Anime adaptation filled with white people.

I found this interesting.

When Dreamworks announced that it would be casting Scarlet Johansson as the lead role in their possibly live-action Ghost in the Shell film adaptation, not every fan was happy. A petition sprung up on Care2Petitions, calling out the studio:

Quote:
The original film is set in Japan, and the major cast members are Japanese. So why would the American remake star a white actress? The industry is already unfriendly to Asian actors without roles in major films being changed to exclude them. One recent survey found that in 2013, Asian characters made up only 4.4% of speaking roles in top-grossing Hollywood films.

Dreamworks could be using this film to help provide opportunities for Asian-American actors in a market with few opportunities for them to shine -- please sign the petition asking them to reconsider casting Scarlett Johansson in Ghost in the Shell and select actors who are truer to the cast of the original film.

That is as dumb as demanding French people be cast in every new version of Les liaisons dangereuses. Why don't they call out the studio for viciously casting 3D girls instead of 2D girls, too? Of all the reasons to be upset about a live action GitS, that seems like one of the dumbest.

And yet Sawa in the Kite Live Action movie was not Asian despite keeping the original name of the character in the movie. But I think she performed the character well for a movie that was kind of hard to folllow even though I have seen both Kite Anime movies.

The point is, America doesn't have that many Asian Actors and that it's more about who suits the character the best, not matching the race of the character. Though if you can find an Asian Actress to play as the Major who speaks English and suits the character the best, then great. Otherwise Hollywood can only use what they can find.

People get upset over stupid stuff all the time. I mean if they wanted Asian people to do it then don't you think they should have got a Asian film studio then?
