I'm not one for gimmicks (3d, curved screen, 4k), so I don't have any players or discs that can take advantage of them. But I am going to be buying a new tv very soon, and I'm wondering if I should pay the extra $150 to get a 4k tv instead of just a standard screen.
Thing is, I have some gift card credit with Amazon that I'd like to use and I can't make heads or tails with what they have for sale. There's a 55" Vizio E-series (I'm guessing E is for economy) that has good reviews but less hdmi ports than I want. Then there's a 55" Vizio 4k 2015 model for $100+ more with enough ports and just as good reviews. I have about 4 hdmi devices I use - region free bluray player, ps4, my pc, and a ps3. My basic questions are: -Is getting a 4k tv better than not if I don't have any 4k content to watch? -Are Vizio's still good tvs? -My budget is around $600 (give or take); should I look at a different brand? -Is 55" too big to upgrade to if I only have 1080p/720p content to watch? -I won't be mounting this to a wall, so are the legs a problem being spread apart versus screens that have a center placed stand? -Is buying a refurbished tv a bad idea? -Since one of them is listed as a 2015 model, should I be looking for a 2016/2017 model? -Is there anything else I should consider that most people overlook? Thanks! |

Starting off with your questions. 1. Yes. Yes it is. 4K TVs make 1080p content look amazing! 2. They are great TVs! They use local dimming which really helps with the black levels. I have had my 55" P series for about 18 months now and I love it! 3. No, you should wait and and save more for a better TV. For $600, you are going to get a cheaper Entry-level TV. Since you are wanting to buy it on Amazon, perhaps you could use their 1 year no interest financing for large purchases. 4. 55" is a great size for most living rooms. How far away from the screen do you plan on sitting? 5. Probably not, but that depends on where you set it. 6. It usually is. I have never seen someone happy that they save 10-15% and got a refurbished TV. 7. The newer models will have more features that will allow you to get more life out of this TV purchase. HDR is something that you want to have, and the new P series from Vizio has it. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/vizio-55...FdcYgQodgvYNDw 8. Three other things to consider. (A). Try to get hardline Cat6 cable ran from your router to your TV. Streaming 4K content can be difficult and result in the TV's App crashing. (B). If you go 4K, plan to get a UHD Blu-ray player sooner rather than later. (C). You might want to get a 7.1 Surround receiver that supports 4K. This will allow you to connect all of your devices up to it and use it to upscale your devices to 4K as well as have amazing sound. |
