United Kingdom Cliffhanger

As far as I know the current UK edition of Cliffhanger is butchered. I just want to buy the best possible version out there. I have a Multiregion player and can import from anywhere. Any ideas?

All previous cuts were waived in 2008 so there shouldn't be any cuts unless they put an older cut version on BD.

No, it doesn't I used to own the UK release. The US has more extras and the PQ is more detailed and colours are accurate. The UK release has minimal detail and bland colours....

The audio channels were reversed on the UK release, originally. No idea if they fixed it.

AFAIK Optimum never bothered to fix the audio problem. I bought the US version for the proper audio, never mind the PQ.

I doubt this will ever get released in its "totally uncut" form. The US "R" rated cut is the strongest out there, I think previously the UK "15" rated version contained several cuts to the more violent scenes. I kinda hoped that Renny Harlin would have been interested in putting together an unrated version, the same with Die Hard 2, however it would seem he isn't interested, or maybe there isn't the desire to see it...

I didnt know until now that the movie I saw years years ago was cut. I mean what was cut? I didnt recall any violence and I also dont expect such strong violence to make it a NC17 movie. You guys talking about the Sylvester Stallone movie right?

Amazingly it was originally NC-17! The below quote features a run down on why it was rated so high.

[Show spoiler]
Quote:
The film was originally rated NC-17 by the MPAA on account of its violence. Several cuts were made to almost every violent scene in the film in order to get an R rating. Several death scenes in the film were shot in slow motion and lasted several seconds; for instance in the beginning of the film the pilot of the plane shoots the co-pilot in the head in a very brief shot; in the NC-17 version, this was shot from a different angle that showed blood splattering on the window. Bootleg DVD copies taken from a timecoded VHS workprint feature the original rough cut of the film, complete with uncut violent scenes. Travers' death originally featured him being shot in the shoulder by Walker with the bolt gun and blasted with the shotgun by Tucker. This was changed to Walker firing the gun three times, not due to censorship but because a review of the dailies caused the filmmakers to think of a somewhat slicker death.

The movie was a box office hit. For its British cinema release, the film was edited by one minute, then by a further twenty-five seconds on video and DVD to gain a '15' certificate. Chief victim was the scene where Delmar beats up Tucker, but other cuts included aggressive strong language and other moments of violence. However the 2008 DVD release was passed '15' with no cuts made.

The commentary gives alot on what was cut. I've seen bits of the work print and it is a fair bit more violent not robocop violent though.
