Default Real Or Fake IMAX?

I've never seen a movie in IMAX before, but i'm planning on making The Amazing Spider-Man my first. I've heard about the fake IMAX screens that have been popping up across the country and was wondering if this screen is big enough to be classified as real IMAX.

The theater is the Regal Cinemas Pinnacle 18 in Knoxville, TN and the screen measures 61 feet 2 inches by 36 feet 7 inches.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know the measurements, but I can tell you that I have seen John Carter, The Avengers, and Prometheus on an IMAX screen that I am pretty sure is deemed as "fake", and the experience is still awesome. I plan on doing Amazing Spider Man on it as well.

'fake' IMAX is reffered to affectionately as those that are just like traditional cinema screens but much larger. True IMAX screens are more like the 4:3 TVs you used to have.

That's how the screens are usually shaped. True IMAX on the right with the digital version looking like the version on the left but on a much bigger scale than regular cinemas with vastly superior video and audio.

If you don't have a true IMAX, just go to the digital version. it's still 10x superior to watching in regular cinemas.

What about those Marcus Ultrascreens? I saw TDK and TRON on one and they were spectacular.

Also DIGITAL SUCKS!

Really? I thought it usually helps give a lot better images compared to some of the crappy old projectors certain cinemas use. I would rather go IMAX digital than the crappy projector to watch movies in my local cinema.

I'm planning on making a hefty trip to go see The Dark Knight Rises in Imax, the screen size is 29m wide x 24.5m high, would that make it an offical imax or a liemax?

YMMV, but a good first-run theater with a film projector will look better than any digital crap.

I believe the Knoxville one is LIEMAX, but some site say that there are two screens.

The only difference between real and fake IMAX is the size of the screen. The clarity and sound are the same:

I was all pumped to see DKR in IMAX. I was unaware that my theater doesn't offer Midnight showings for IMAX, only a normal digital cinema, so my second viewing assuming it is as awesome as I imagine will have to be on the big screen.

I'm booked into two showings for TDKR. One for 8am of the day of release and 11.40am on the day after with my friends and brothers. With Amazing Spiderman etc that don't have any native IMAX scenes i have to go to a nearby digital IMAX 35 mins away but the experience is still vastly superior to my local cinema. Ironically they're owned by the same company with the fact we're treated like that is mostly down to the fact we have a crap city atm but it's improving slowly.

This isn't true. When a conventional film is displayed at a LIEMAX theatre it first goes through IMAX's Digital Media Remastering for their larger 70mm screens and then a second conversion for use on their LIEMAX Digital screens.

The one in Bradford? Then, yes it's a real Imax. I believe the Odeon ones are LIEMAX.

No, it's the odeon in Manchester, that's a bit of a downer I may not bother after all

Come to Bradford mate. We have a real IMAX and a ton of showings. You can book online probably cheaper than you could elsewhere and it's roughly 35 mins or so from Manchester.

I'm just going by Wikipedia, so the information may not be correct.

Theres only a handful of true IMAX theatres in the UK. Checking the official IMAX site shows them i believe and all others are digital

It's always Lincoln Square or bust for me when it comes to high profile releases

Anyone in NYC, which is the best/better LIEMAX around? Union Square 14? Kips Bay 15? (top/bottom cutoff?)

I would do but train tickets are far cheaper from here to Manchester than here to Bradford

IMAX 70mm projectors are a completely different animal from your typical 35mm ones. Their digital system still has a lot of catching up to do.

I suppose it depends which projector your theatre uses i guess but for me the digital IMAX is still miles ahead of the local cinemas quality but they have really poor projectors.
