this film is hilarious. for anyone who enjoys the mst3k/ed wood/the room side of lore / humor.
everyone is very forthcoming. its laugh out loud funny. and sad. the idea of the director pulling an apocalypse now and going into hiding as an extra is incredible. for those interested in other interviews regarding this movie, Ron Perlman just did a WTF with Marc Maron and towards the end he has some pretty good zingers about the production. Late period Brando just didn't give a shit. |

![]() ![]() ![]() http://store.hmv.com/film-tv/blu-ray...ichard-stanley There's an argument to be made that post-Godfather Brando just didn't give a shit. And all the better for it. |

However as everyone's listing this as 1 disc and the Nucleus website makes no mention of any special edition it's probably safe to presume we're getting standard edition only. |

£10.99 for a 3 disc edition! But that's the cover of Severin Films' 3 disc "House of Pain" edition: ![]() |

The silent Island of Dr.Moreau looks at the very least interesting, while the additional Richard Stanley interview footage could be worthwhile. However the H.G. Well documentary looks too short to be much more than a puff piece and I doubt I'd ever bother with the talking book CD. As such, while kudos to Severin for compiling a proper varied special edition I'll save £5 and stick with the Nucleus edition. |

This is a brilliant doc; I didn't find it funny particularly, outside of the anecdotes that were supposed to be funny, just sort of sad that Stanley imploded the way he did and that he could've gone on to make some really interesting films, but got hollowed out by dealing with studio filmmaking. It's not hard to see why he got the boot, though, he really imploded. Without doing too much half-arsed armchair psychoanalysis, Stanley comes across as being somewhat slightly on the spectrum, so it's not hard to see why dealing with circumlocutory studio sharks would frazzle his circuits.

I imported the Severin Films' 3 disc "House of Pain" edition and I can confirm that it's a truly great set.
Good to see this getting a UK release as it's a fascinating documentary and anything that helps get Richard Stanley's work more exposure is fine by me. |

I watched this great documentary tonight, I had prepared by watching the actual film itself yesterday and listened to the How Did This Get Made podcast about the film. So I was prepared but the documentary didn’t disappoint.
One thing, David Thewlis wasn’t even mentioned and I’d sure would’ve liked to hear from him or his co-stars on the process when he replaced Rob Morrow. |
