Default PC to XBR4 LCD: PC input or HDMI?

I'm getting a new PC to hook up to my XBR4 Bravia LCD. Is there any advantage to one input versus the other? I tried it with my current laptop via the VGA input and it looked great but the new PC has both VGA and DVI outputs so I was curious if one was better or not.

Reading the manual I believe the PC standby mode only works with the VGA input so that seems to be one difference but are there any other pros or cons?

This kind of question should really go to the owners thread.

Just a general comment as I haven't tried both, but VGA is analog and HDMI is digital so the latter would mean fewer signal conversions in the process, which is usually a good thing.

Make sure your PC's DVI supports digital signals, otherwise it won't work with XBR4's HDMI input. Also, only HDMI1 on the XBR4 has a separate audio connectors so you need to use that input if you want to send audio to the XBR4 as well.

I forgot about the owner's thread but thanks for the reply. Your last point made me think I'll just use the PC input since it'll make the audio easier to manage by using just a regular stereo plug. Also, it'll keep the HDMI ports free for devices that have no alternative.

On your point about the DVI supporting digital signals, do you mean digital audio output?

Im using a dvi to hdmi on my xbr4 and i have it set to run at 1080p which is nice but for some reason the farther away you are to the sreen the harder it is to read and it hurts your eyes a lot. im talking more then 1 or 2 feet away.

My laptop was set to output at 1280 x 800 when I tried it out and I thought the font size was just right even sitting far away from the TV. I haven't tried it at a higher resolution but I can imagine it would be harder to read.

Not all TVs will support 1:1 pixel mode over hdmi. In that case use the VGA port to avoid scaling and to see the entire image.

The trade off by using VGA will be a much smaller picture though, but it will probably be clearer.

1920x1080 via HDMI - DVI is just to much for your eyes to handle i dropped the res down a lot and its much better but you cant do full screen.
