Default 'Howards End' up for pre-order at Amazon

Here's the link:

http://www.amazon.com/Howards-End-Bl...3593281&sr=1-1

No release date announced yet. Seems it must have won in Criterion's recent poll. Anyway, it will be a good addition to their BD catalogue.

Maurice would be great also. It would complete the EM Forster - Merchant/Ivory trilogy which began with A Room with a View. Howard's End is a great film. Excellent news.

Good news, but I still hope Criterion will eventually release 'Kwaidan' on Blu, which was the one I voted for.

'Maurice' on Blu would be great as well!

I agree that a Maurice release would be fantastic as well. I'd love to see how it's restoration, along with Hoawrds End would look on Blu (they look great on DVD already).

Default Howard End and Maurice

Those are two of my favorites, but I'd like to find out first about PQ and AQ before updatating, hope they do a good transfer of those two classics.

Actually they're only doing one of them ('Howards End'), but Criterion can usually be relied upon to do transfers properly.

Great news! Love this movie! I'll wait for it to hit $19.99, though.

In amazon there are many bad reviews of the quality of the picture (excessive snowy noise in contrast to filmic grain).
Does anyone know anything about it?
someone said he got a replacement disc and it was better..

I think that is due to poor TV settings.

When I have my TV on Dynamic/Cool/DNR=on/DNie=on (bad settings), I get snowy noise.

When I have my TV on Movie/Warm/DNR=off/Dnie=off (good settings), I have no noise and a lovely picture.

I think this is just another instance of people wanting everything to look like Transformers. It won't. It's a faithful presentation of the film, IMO.

The film is grainy and some of the darker scenes are crushed, but that is likely due to the lighting on set. IMO, it is an excellent representation of how the film was intended to look, and a vast improvement over previous editions.

If it was on backorder with Amazon, you will probably not receive it. Criterion/Janus films lost distribution rights to all Merchant/Ivory films a couple weeks ago, due to a lawsuit.
