Default Have you done your part? Let's hear some selling stories!

Sony and the BDA should hire me. Seriously. In the past 3 months i've managed to convince 6 people to purchase PS3's and adopt Blu-ray format as the next generation HDM.

Not even 5 minutes ago, I convinced a friend in Miami to purchase a PS3 for her boyfriend as a Christmas gift. The final selling point? "If you act now you get 5 free Blu-ray movies when you buy it!"

If you're listening Sony, a personal check will be fine.

Even better news, I've done absolutely nothing and three people around me went Blu. The first my sister-in-law bought my nephew a PS3 for Christmas. Second, my cousin, a total non-techie bought a BD-P1400 from Best Buy because "the price really came down." Third, my buddy at work who I never talked to about this also got a BD-P1400 mainly because he loves Pixar and the price was low.

Nobody I know outside of forum dwellers has bought a HD-DVD player. It seems like Blu is the choice of everyday folk, and HD-DVD is the choice of fourm-dwelling deal seekers. I'm totally cool with that.

I believe the Disney endorsement has really sealed the deal over here. I love CGI/animated films, they have such great detail and are amazing in 1080p high def

I've talked 4 co-workers into buying PS3's this holiday season...I've also talked a few people out of buying a 360 or a Wii and they are now interested in the PS3. I'll keep working on them.

Not as many as you, but I have gotten 3 people to by PS3's, 4 people to buy SONY SXRD TV's and have steered complete strangers, at BEST BUY and FRY's, away from HD-DUD and towards Blu-ray. MAybe we should get some investors and start our own "official" Blu-everything electronics store?

Happy Holidays to ALL!

I have been selling Blu-Ray players every chance I get. I work for a Distribution company, so I can't always influence the choice directly, but I HAVE been able to generate some enthusiasm from some of the custom installers I sell to.

The good news is since we started selling the Samsung at $299 retail (dealer cost is slightly less), we have completely sold out of the BDP-1400 at both the Bellevue and Portland warehouses!

Even better, customers looking for the Samsung are often switching the orders not to the comparably priced HD-DVD, but to the more expensive Sharp and Panasonic units!

Overall, I would say that interest in HDM in general has grown quite a bit in the past few months, and it is not uncommon to see Blu-Ray players sold with even basic home theater systems. I am sure that we will sell tons more as soon as Warner announces whatever they are set to annouce at the beginning of the year.

Go Blu!

Oh, I should also mention that I was gifted a Microsoft HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360 for christmas. <sigh!>

And, yes, I am returning it for credit towards a shiny new PS3!

I have convinced at least 10 people I know to buy a PS3, and 1 person bought a standalone Blu Ray player after they came over and watched Ratatouille.
