Default How long does it take you to watch a Blu-ray after you buy it?

You know, I'm frequently buying Blu-rays from Amazon or Best Buy, and not too long after I buy it, I get an email asking me how I liked the movie, and to leave a review. It's usually kind of a joke to me, since I know it may be months or years before I actually get around to watching the movie in question.

I just did a count of the first 100 Blu-rays on my shelf (arranged in alphabetical order), and 42 had been watched and 58 had not been watched and were mostly still sealed in plastic.

So I was just wondering if most other people also take a similar leisurely approach to digesting their Blu-ray purchases, or if you are more sensible and don't buy a movie unless you have plans to immediately watch it.

If it's a new release and it's a blind buy I will watch it within the first week or two of release. If it's something I have seen before it may be a few weeks or months before I get to it.

I usually pop it in when I first get it (to see if the disc works. Paranoid, I know). I used to be able to watch a movie the day I get it, but lately, I haven't been in the mood. So usually the day of, but within the week at the latest.

Brand new hot release? 1-2 days.

Opportunistic purchases where the price was right and I had interest? Shoot I have shrink wrapped movies from over a year ago I haven't opened.

Depending on the title... I've watched a lot of my more recent acquisitions, but I usually have a backlog of about 6 months to a year with the blu-rays I pick up.

Ranges from immediately to years (with the latter consisting of stuff of moderate interest to me, that I happen to find at Black Friday level prices). Sounds crazy but works for me.

All depends on the title. Blind buys that I've been wanting to see usually are viewed within the week, same with comedies since they don't require much attention and I can multitask while watching. A thriller or something with a major plot twist I'll wait around 2 years so I forget as much as possible between viewings. TV series I tend to wait until I have at least seasons 1 & 2, then will binge at a random time. Franchise titles I first view chronologically and won't re-watch until I've seen all (to-date). Rough guide, exceptions made frequently depending on what myself or others are in the mood for.

There is really no logic to it with me. Sometimes I watch same day, other times I will have it for month or even years. I might still even have a few I've had since I very first started buying blu-rays in 2009/2010-ish.

Similar to others, if it's a "newer" release or something like a Criterion I'm paying $20+ for, I will tend to watch it right away. If it's something I picked up as an afterthought - it just depends on if I'm in the mood to watch it. At one point, I had a backlog of like 200 movies some of which were months or years in my possession, but as I've been buying less lately I've whittled that down dramatically. I'm almost down to just a few of the TV series I've had for a really long time.

I'm more or less the same way. Most of my purchases are fueled by getting the best deal, so I have many titles that I picked up simply because they were a good bargain and I knew at some point I'd want to watch them. I'm also hugely motivated by my 31 Days of Horror movie marathon each october, so in sme instances I'll purchase a title or titles only to save them for the next Marathon... for instance, I jumped on the chance to buy the Leprechaun and Exorcist Box sets last year only to not watch either of them yet. It really is a crap shoot with me and it all comes down to my mood during any given weekend.

Well I always check the discs as soon as I can - that has proved itself to be a good idea once or twice.

If its a film I havent seen, I watch it within a week because I might need to sell it if I dont like it enough.

I hate films 'hanging around' waiting to watch though. I've actually caught up really well recently and only have the Apes films to plough through now.

For me, it tends to depend upon whether or not I've seen the film before. If it's something that I've seen a ton of times before, like if Bend It Like Beckham got a Region A release, lord only knows when I would end up popping it in. If it's a blind buy that I've been waiting months to see, then it's going in pretty much at first opportunity.

Also, if something is loaded with extras, like if it's a really beautiful Criterion release, I'll probably be dedicating that entire evening to watching the film and digging into the extras.

It takes me forever to watch a brand new release or any blu ray for that matter.

It varies. Sometimes right away, other times...not so fast. I bought Interstellar on release day, but have yet to watch it. I bought Night at the Museum 3 and watched it the next day. No real rhyme or reason to it.

new releases immediately, stuff like cheaper catalog titles that I already love will replace a dvd on the shelf.

Due to my work schedule, I only have to time to watch my movies is on the weekend, when I'm off. I work 2nd shift, and it's difficult for me to do anything else for lack of time but to relax before I go back to work.

I keep a spreadsheet with all the blu-rays I have purchased with a column for whether I have ever seen the film; a lot of my purchases are blind buys. Out of 527 films I still have 99 to view!

Like others have said it totally depends on the film whether I watch it immediately. For instance I was very fond of 'Her' and 'Inside Llewyn Davis' and have the blu-rays but I still have yet to watch them. However when 'The Master' was released I watched it immediately and will do likewise with 'Inherent Vice' as I'm a huge PTA fan.

There are a lot of great films that I haven't seen but I will wait on being released on blu-ray to see them in the best quality; 'Out of the Past', 'The Killing' and 'The Lady From Shanghai' are a few recent examples of this.

Isn't that something you could use the blu-ray.com "My collection" database to track without the redundancy of a spreadsheet?

For me it's all about the mood. What I'm the mood for watching at the moment, it can be either a new release or a catalog title.
