I haven't seen this film but it is a genre I love.
Maybe it will be a blind buy.
I also love Kirk Douglas.

Wow. I thought MGM were putting this out themselves? Part of a new deal perhaps?

Yes, when I asked Kino about this over at the hometheaterforum, they said that MGM hadn't licensed it out to anyone, & the inference was that they were going to release it themselves, but it looks like they've had it with catalogue releases. I won't be getting this as it'll be region A locked, but someone is bound to license it for release in Europe.

That's such a great original film poster!

Isn't this the movie where they rotoscoped the final sword fight animation for The Secret Of NIMH from?

Because of the great photography this movie has, it truly deserves a restoration that would start with a scan of its original camera negatives. I'm not hopeful that's what we're going to get, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed it'll at least be okay.

This is one great action epic and a perfect Saturday popcorn delight. Saw it on first release as a kid in the Linda Vista theater in San Diego and have loved it ever since. The film has shown on HD net and the print was magnificent. If the same copy is used by Kino, you are in for a treat!

Oh, forgot to pitch a similar Columbia/Sony film, "The Long Ships." Another entertaining Viking saga, a little on the fantasy/adventure side, but also thoroughly enjoyable and beautiful in HD (saw it on the Sony HD Movie Channel). This would be perfect for TT release!

You'd think Kirk Douglas would've at least changed his hair or sported a beard. He looks like a time traveler from the 1950s, unlike Borgnine, who went "all in" to look the part.

Dude, I was reading this thread and checked out that point in the trailer and was laughing so damn hard. That's some serious penetration right there.

Ha, Borgnine played Kirk Douglas' dad, but he was in fact younger than Douglas, that hasn't happened very often in movies.
