Gonna check this out in the theater this afternoon. Going in with low expectations can't hurt.

I didn't realize the movie was PG-13. Many of the reviews suggest that heavily compromised it. Here's hoping the blu-ray is unrated.

It's got that Shark Night feel to the trailer. PG-13 and shark attacks just don't ****ing mix!
That being said, Shark Night has grown on me and I see it as a cult movie to be down the road. This would've had me in the theater, but PG-13 wil make me wait for the library. I might buy if a true unrated version comes out, but who knows if that was even filmed? I kinda expected one for Shark Night and it apparently doesn't exist.

Shark Night was entertaining, solid cast. Not sure what to expect with The Shallows but definitely interested in seeing it before buying.

If Jaws were released today, it would unquestionably receive an R rating.

I don't know about that. I think it would have been PG-13

Not in an era where "Mad Max: Fury Road" was rated R by the MPAA for "intense sequences of violence throughout, and for disturbing images."

Yeah, because Jaws definitely wasn't intense, violent and filled with disturbing images...

Not much different than NBC, CBS or ABC crime shows or even the news.

Not to mention "The King's Speech" R rating.

As a crazy-huge fan of "Criminal Minds" I can tell you that the many scenes of torture and other violence in that show are WAY worse than anything in Jaws.

As to The Shallows it looks really good, I love Blake Lively, it's gotten very good reviews for the most part, and I'm going to see it tonight.

The MPAA and television ratings are completely different entities.

Yes, it would- you're dismissing the aforementioned examples without comment. You're allowed.
