Release date: December 22

Quote:
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of director Joe Wright's Pan, a live-action feature presenting a wholly original adventure about the beginnings of the beloved characters created by J.M. Barrie. The adventure film stars Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard, Garrett Hedlund as James Hook, Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily, newcomer Levi Miller as Peter, and Amanda Seyfried as Mary. Pan arrives via 2D and 3D Blu-ray combo packs on December 22nd.

Synopsis: Peter (Levi Miller) is a mischievous 12-year-old boy with an irrepressible rebellious streak, but in the bleak London orphanage where he has lived his whole life those qualities do not exactly fly. Then one incredible night, Peter is whisked away from the orphanage and spirited off to a fantastical world of pirates, warriors and fairies called Neverland. There, he finds amazing adventures and fights life-or-death battles while trying to uncover the secret of his mother, who left him at the orphanage so long ago, and his rightful place in this magical land. Teamed with the warrior Tiger Lily (Rooney Mara) and a new friend named James Hook (Garrett Hedlund), Peter must defeat the ruthless pirate Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman) to save Neverland and discover his true destiny—to become the hero who will forever be known as Peter Pan.

The 2D and 3D Blu-ray releases of Pan are presented in 1080p with Dolby Atmos surround; remixed specifically for the home theater environment to place and move audio anywhere in the room, including overhead. (To experience Dolby Atmos at home, a Dolby Atmos enabled AV receiver and additional speakers are required. Dolby Atmos soundtracks are fully backward compatible with traditional audio configurations and legacy home entertainment equipment that aren't Dolby Atmos compatible.)

Special features include:
Director's Commentary
Never Grow Up: The Legend of Pan
The Boy Who Would Be Pan
The Scoundrels of Neverland
Wondrous Realms

Was it really necessary to have Peter be terrible CGI for 90% of his flying scenes?

I have heard terrible things about this film, is there anyone out there who enjoyed it? I'm not being sarcastic, I genuinely want to hear the opinion of someone who enjoyed it to decide whether to blind buy or not.

well I saw it twice - I enjoyed it, it ain't high art, and there are some bizarre points in the movie no doubt about that, but it's far from the worst movie ever made. Technically its an amazing movie. But the script seems a bit all over the place

I was so disappointed with this one. I wanted to love it and was let down by every aspect of it. some scenes felt so out of place and awkward. blind buyers beware

I thought this movie was fantastic, definitely one of my favourites of the year. A real treat from start to finish.

Didn't this come out in October? Release window of only two months? Yikes.

I've always wondered about things like that. Does that kind of quick turn-around indicate the film did poorly in theaters (i.e. it wasn't in theaters for very long)? Sometimes the turn-around on some of these films to home video come off as completely random.

I think it was mainly to put it out before christmas. If christmas wasn't coming up, I think this would come out in January

Regardless of what you think of the movie, this is one of those films you can treat as a demo disc as I think it's one of the most visually stunning films of the year.

This movie is a great example of how 3D should be done.

From the reviews: "To date, its worldwide gross is barely half of its estimated $250 production and marketing costs, and the critical reaction has been scathing." If the studio only spent $250 on production AND marketing costs, no wonder it was a flop...

It was because it had done poorly, mostly. Putting it out before Christmas is a move likely made because they know that's when they'll likely sell the most copies. This movie tanked... Which is a shame because it looked splendid. I still can't wait to see it for myself.
